GENERAL PROJECT

Valley Gardens, Consett

Looking after the environment and reducing the risk of pollution are two of our top priorities. As part of this commitment, we plan to invest within the sewerage network to construct 85m of new pipeline within Valley Gardens.

Update by Bethany Oakley

Hi all,

I hope you’re well.

I wanted to provide an update on the works to Valley Gardens and Cutlers Hall Road. Please accept our apologies for the delays, when we returned from the Christmas Break.

The Team began excavating Cutlers Hall Road and it was discovered that the road makeup is a makeup of 6 different hard road layers, including tarmac, concrete and cobbles. This meant that excavating would take longer than expected.

A service provider was within the vicinity completing emergency works which resulted in a delay in our re-mobilisation as well as this, the Winter weather conditions meant that it was not safe for our Team to work, and we unfortunately lost a full week due to this.

When the Team started excavating for the second drain run, they discovered that the hard road makeup had continued throughout the excavation, including the area around a potential service. As part of our safe system of works, we cannot mechanically dig within 500mm of a known/potential service and therefore, again our work was put on hold until a new method to excavate was agreed. When the new method was devised and approved, we were able to continue with the works but required extra time to excavate around the potential service, to assure our operatives are safe while doing so.

We will now commence with the works and move into the entrance of Valley Gardens on Wednesday 05 February 2025, for a period of 2 weeks.

Phase 3 will then commence on Wednesday 19th February 2025 which is later than previously anticipated.

Once the Traffic Management has been installed, there will be no access for vehicles in the working area, however pedestrian access will remain open. To be clear we will be working at the bottom of Valley Gardens in two sections throughout the duration of the 8 weeks - this is to help minimize disruption as much as we can whilst we conduct our work. The Project will be complete on Friday 04th April 2025.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation. If you have any questions that you'd like to as us regarding the works, please don't hesitate to add a comment in the box below and a member of the Project Team will respond accordingly.

Take care and speak soon,

Bethany
