Project updates

Update by Brian Hall

Hello everyone

You will be aware we are currently doing piling work in the area of Eastwood Villas. We have had a number of complaints in relation to vibration in people’s homes. We have checked the vibration levels and confirmed that they are within safe limits but accept this is causing concern to some. We are now ceasing work for the weekend and will reassess on Monday 3rd June to decide how to proceed. I will update you all as soon as possible

Please get in touch if you have any concerns

Thank you all for your patience

Hello everyone

From the beginning of the project we made the decision to minimise the impact on the local environment and residents. For this reason trench digging across the playing fields was never going to be an option so a ‘no dig’ method was adopted tunnelling underground.

The problem we are encountering at the moment is there are number of large boulders underground all over the field (see photo) and they are causing us extra work.

At the moment we are running a couple of weeks over schedule due to this and environmental issues in the Wood (Newts!) so progress is steady, steadier than we would like but we are pushing on.

The work on the overbridge is almost complete so we hope to get the temporary traffic lights removed soon.

Thank you all for bearing with us during the work, I will keep you updated on our progress as much as possible.

Hope you all have a good bank holiday weekend, the forecast isn’t great but it might surprise us, we will be back at work on Tuesday.

Hello everyone

We were lucky enough to find Great Crested Newts on our pipeline in Wylam Wood and so have ceased work down there for the next couple of weeks until the newts move off as the temperature rises. Meanwhile we have continued with work on the road bridge and on the playing fields.

Your may have noticed our sub-site by the allotments, we will have a presence there while we are working on the pipeline on the playing fields. We have laid a large temporary track on the playing fields so we can get our plant onto there for piling and excavating without damaging the ground. We have substantially changed our plans so the pipeline is kept away from the line of trees on the fields to minimize our impact on the landscape.

Please let us know if there are any problems or you have any questions about our work, thanks again for your patience - Brian

Hello everyone

work in Wylam Wood is well advanced now, laying piping up to the overbridge over the A695. We have been working with our ecology team to minimize damage in the woods and by making changes have saved over 100 trees from having to be felled. No oak trees or other substantial trees have had to be removed. All our site team have been made aware of possible presence of wildlife in the woods and have been checking for newts, birds and small mammals as they go.

We will be establishing a further small site next week on the grassed area just to the south of the allotments. This will be fenced off for safety and pedestrian routes marked out. We will use this site to work onto the playing fields on the old school site. Again we have changed plans so there will be mimimal disturbance to the new grass on the fields. We will be working in this area for the next 9 to 10 weeks.

I will keep you updated as we move onto this site and will be around next week calling on nearby homes.
