The construction phase of this project is now complete.
There may still be updates, so the project will remain here. We are still monitoring the project and will reply to any comments. So if you have any questions please feel free to comment or contact us here.
Northumbrian Water are investing approximately £1.6m to enhance the resilience of the water supply network in Westerton and the surrounding areas of Coundon, Kirk Merrington and Ferryhill.
Typical working hours will be Monday to Friday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
We have no plans to disrupt your water supply while we work this project.
There may be a requirement to have temporary traffic management on the main road through the village in order to lay the new section of main and connect to the Coundon leg. We will aim to keep this to a minimum timescale and update the community as soon as we understand the requirements.
We will keep our community portal updated with key information about progress. The site will be operated by our framework partner Esh-Stantec, an experienced contractor working to tight health and safety standards. Working areas will be securely fenced off from public access at all times. We do ask that everyone respects the site fencing, signing, guarding and instructions of our team when required for your own safety.
There will be no significant visible difference to the service reservoir and the new main will be buried. There will be a new pumping station at the bottom of Westerton Heights bank, which will likely be the traditional green kiosk. It will be kept to as small a footprint as possible and will be located within the field on the North side of the same road next to the highways verge. There may be some minor improvements made to the existing farmers access point to the field to allow for Northumbrian Water vehicles to access the new station in the future.
During the construction period, there may be dust, vibration and noise, however due to the remote location of the site, this should only affect residents when we are laying the new sections of main within the village. The site team will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience caused by this and will make sure that the work is carried out safely.
The contractor will make sure that the access road through Westerton Heights is maintained throughout the works.
We will ensure that these dates are incorporated into the programme and that access is not prohibited.
Yes, in most part. If this is not going to be possible for any stage of the works, we will consult with the relevant residents prior and ensure that there is as little disruption as possible.
