Good afternoon

The team have been working with the council this week due to the weather this had flooded a field. The water will be filtered and pumped away.

Progress over the last couple of weeks has allowed the team to install over 100 metres of pipe, while working closely with an archaeologist while we complete drilling within certain areas.

I will keep you updated as work progresses, if you have any questions or concerns, please comment on this post or email us on nwl.customer@esh.uk.com

Have a great weekend!

Good morning,

The team continued to prepare the area for directional drilling to locate existing and abandoned services last week ready for work to begin Monday 21 August 2023.

The installation of a temporary fence along the pipeline from Plawsworth to Pity Me is erected ready for the pipe install. Bog mats are being used in our areas of work to prevent damage to the environment.

Livestock fences are now in place to make sure our 4 legged friends do not wander onto our work, and are safe at all times.

Good afternoon,

As you may have seen Esh-Stantec on behalf of Northumbrian Water (NWL) have been working in your area since Monday 10 July 2023.

Since work began we’ve now established our main temporary compound off Finchale Road.  You will notice that we have cut back trees and shrubs to the site entrance under the supervision of an Ecologist to improve sight lines and make it much safer to pull on and off the public highway.

Elsewhere, the team have established a secondary temporary compound off Mill Lane, Plawsworth, on authorised agricultural land.

The team are currently installing temporary timber bog mats along sections of the pipeline route which will form a stable temporary access track in softer ground to support the installation of the pipeline. In addition, we are carrying out hand excavatied trial holes are now along the route of directional drilling to locate existing and abandoned services.

Starting next week, we will be installing a temporary fence along the pipeline from Plawsworth to Pity Me in preparation for the pipeline install.

If you have any questions or concerns, please comment on this post or email us on nwl.customer@esh.uk.com

Have a lovely weekend!

Update by Paul Davison

Good afternoon,

Apologies, it's been a while since we provided an update on here, however, we have been busy in the background progressing the design and securing the necessary financial  approvals for the Durham Transfer project which forms part of a wider Water Improvement National Environmental Programme (WINEP) will help to improve the water quality of the Blackdene Burn and ensure that the treatment facilities and connecting network continues to serve the community effectively.

With approvals in place, we are planning to start construction work on Monday 10 July 2023 and expect to take up to 17 months to complete, however, as with all construction projects, unexpected delays can sometimes occur.

During the construction phase, we will need to create temporary compounds and access points along the pipeline route. The main temporary compound will be located off Finchale Road between the Newton Grange pub and the East Coast Main Line utilising an existing access off the highway into fields to the north. For more information on the scheme and pipeline route, please click on the 'Planned Work' tab above where there is a customer plan you can view and download.

Please be assured that we are working closely with our partners to do all that we can to minimise any disruption to you and your community throughout the work. Typical working hours will be Monday to Friday, between 8.00am and 5.00pm, however, tunnelling work beneath the East Coast Main Line will require continuous working for a short period with more information provided closer to the date.
