GENERAL PROJECT

WINEP Durham Transfer

As part of an £10 million scheme, Northumbrian Water will be carrying out essential works to improve the performance and flexibility of our wastewater network and wastewater treatment works in the Plawsworth, Pity Me and Brasside areas of County Durham. The scheme will help to improve the water quality of the Blackdene Burn for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife and ensure that critical wastewater assets continue to serve the community effectively.

Good morning,

Hope everyone is well!

Direction Drilling works for the Rising Main sewer pipe continue between Plawsworth Sewerage Treatment Works and Hagg House Farm in agricultural land, with parts of the drilling completed and successfully installed.

The team have now drilled and installed pipework which incorporates drilling beneath A167M carriageway and up to the position of the proposed air valve chamber at top of hill.

Between Brasside Sewerage Treatment Works and Brasside Pumping Station pipework and chambers have been laid. To date approximately 528m of 400mm diameter gravity sewer has been installed and 5 new manholes constructed.

As you may have seen we have felled 15 large Poplar Trees adjacent to houses at Harvest View with an Ecologist present while the trees were removed. We will continue to keep residents in the area updated of any changes.

Despite the recent bad weather, we’re continuing to make progress with the installation of rising main and gravity sewer along various sections of the pipeline. Yesterday we successfully installed one of two rising mains under the A167 using  Directional Drilling methods. The drilling machine (Ditch Witch) located adjacent Pity Me Nursery sends an initial pilot drill hole beneath the A167 going west to east. Using an under pressure biodegradable drilling slurry, this keeps the drilled hole open while we attach a larger drill head which ‘back reams’ the hole to the size of the pipe.  Once the hole is ready to receive the new pipe, the Ditch Witch winches the welded plastic pipe back through the drill hole displacing the slurry.

Good afternoon

The team have been working with the council this week due to the weather this had flooded a field. The water will be filtered and pumped away.

Progress over the last couple of weeks has allowed the team to install over 100 metres of pipe, while working closely with an archaeologist while we complete drilling within certain areas.

I will keep you updated as work progresses, if you have any questions or concerns, please comment on this post or email us on nwl.customer@esh.uk.com

Good morning,

The team continued to prepare the area for directional drilling to locate existing and abandoned services last week ready for work to begin Monday 21 August 2023.

The installation of a temporary fence along the pipeline from Plawsworth to Pity Me is erected ready for the pipe install. Bog mats are being used in our areas of work to prevent damage to the environment.

Livestock fences are now in place to make sure our 4 legged friends do not wander onto our work, and are safe at all times.

Good afternoon,

As you may have seen Esh-Stantec on behalf of Northumbrian Water (NWL) have been working in your area since Monday 10 July 2023.

Since work began we’ve now established our main temporary compound off Finchale Road.  You will notice that we have cut back trees and shrubs to the site entrance under the supervision of an Ecologist to improve sight lines and make it much safer to pull on and off the public highway.

Elsewhere, the team have established a secondary temporary compound off Mill Lane, Plawsworth, on authorised agricultural land.

The team are currently installing temporary timber bog mats along sections of the pipeline route which will form a stable temporary access track in softer ground to support the installation of the pipeline. In addition, we are carrying out hand excavatied trial holes are now along the route of directional drilling to locate existing and abandoned services.

Starting next week, we will be installing a temporary fence along the pipeline from Plawsworth to Pity Me in preparation for the pipeline install.

Have a lovely weekend!
