Birtley Reed Beds Refurbishment

Reed beds refurbishment to provide free space within the beds for further treatment of minewater and sewage using this sustainable process. Our sewage treatment works and reed beds aid NWG in improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.

What will the working hours be?

8am-5pm.

Will my water supply be affected?

No.

Will the work cause disruption?

Yes. The right of way will be crossed by our vehicles and details will be provided during a future update.

Will access to my property be maintained?

Yes.

How will residents be kept updated?

Monthly updates by the project team shall be posted on the community portal.

Will the site be dangerous?

All work will be carried out within the existing sewage works which is not open to the public. While our vehicles are crossing the right of way we shall use gates to ensure the public are separated from the vehicles. There shall be no danger to the public.

What will it look like when the works are complete?

There will be no visible change once the reeds have re-established themselves.

Will there be dust, vibration and noise?

We will expect some noise to be generated during the work. We will keep noisy work restricted to the hours of 8am-5pm.

Will the roads be kept clean during the works?

The public right of way will be kept to the existing condition it is in.

What happens on bin collection days if the bin wagon can not get to my property?

The bin wagon will be able to access your property at all times.

Will I be able to access my drive or directly park outside my property?

Yes.
