Castle Eden Dene, Peterlee

The work will necessitate the removal of trees including non-native conifers that were planted in the reserve in the 1970s. The work is planned to maximise benefits for wildlife, including songbird species such as long tailed tit and chiff chaff and invertebrates such as the rare dingy skipper by reshaping the natural environment.

Update by Loren Jennings

Good afternoon and I hope you are all well.

As Spring is upon us, I wanted to let everyone know that we are making plans to return to the project area.  We need to undertake some weed control and other work to ensure that the wildflower meadow becomes established and has a chance to thrive.  I'll post again here when I have details of the dates this will happen.

Also, if you see anything around the site which hasn't been sitting well with you, please do let me know here and we can have a look at it.
