GENERAL PROJECT

Gresham Road, Middlesbrough

We are investing approximately £1.1 million in a flood mitigation project to address the long-standing flooding issue on Gresham Road, affecting multiple properties. This investment will not only resolve the flooding problems for these properties but also benefit the wider community by enhancing the capacity and functionality of the sewer network. By ensuring the network can handle current and future demands, this project reduces the potential for flooding and increases overall infrastructure reliability. It reflects our commitment to providing unrivalled customer service, ensuring infrastructure reliability, and upholding environmental stewardship.

Project updates

Update by Bethany Oakley

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you're well.

I wanted to provide an update on the works and some key dates for phase 1 of the work:

Phase 1 of our work will begin W/C Monday 27th January and will take seven weeks to complete, this includes our investigation works, before moving to Phase 2.

Due to the nature of our work, and for the safety of our Customers and our Site Team, we need to close a section of Gresham Road. This will be a rolling road closure, which will moved along Gresham Road for each phase of our works. Pedestrian access to properties will be always maintained, and footpaths will remain open.

We will try to maintain emergency access during our working hours, ensuring emergency vehicles can get as close to the properties as possible.

Should you have any questions regarding the works, please don't hesitate to reach out by adding a comment in the box below and a member of the Project Team will respond accordingly.

Please find attached some information on how to access our translation service.

Take care and speak soon,

Bethany

Update by Tochukwu Okafor

Hello,

Following the letter you should have by now received in the post, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Tochukwu Okafor, Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager, and I will be looking after this scheme through to its completion. The project will be delivered by Northumbrian Water’s partner, Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB).

Commencing on 5th August 2024, we will be conducting ground investigations to assess ground conditions and access service crossings necessary for the planned works on Gresham Road, spanning from the junction of Bow Street to Falkland Street. These investigations will take one week to complete, and will provide crucial information to facilitate the construction works.

Based on the findings from the ground investigations, we aim to finalise the project scope and commence on-site work by October 2024. The scope of work includes the construction of three new manholes and 165 meters of sewer pipeline along the specified stretch of Gresham Road. I have included a plan of the proposed pipeline here.

As the project develops, we will keep you informed about our plans and progress by sharing our proposals with you on this portal. We are very interested to understand your views.

The team will post regular updates throughout the construction phase of the project. If you have any queries please leave a comment below, and a member of the project team will get back to you.

If you prefer a telephone conversation or require any further information or advice, please contact our Customer Centre on 0345 717 1100 or visit www.nwl.co.uk to request a call back from the project team.

The work we’re going to carry out won’t affect your water supply but if you need extra support with access or how we keep in touch with you, please let us know.
You can sign up to our Priority Services which means we can give you extra support when you need it, for FREE! www.nwl.co.uk/priorityservices
