GENERAL PROJECT

Gresham Road, Middlesbrough

We are investing approximately £1.1 million in a flood mitigation project to address the long-standing flooding issue on Gresham Road, affecting multiple properties. This investment will not only resolve the flooding problems for these properties but also benefit the wider community by enhancing the capacity and functionality of the sewer network. By ensuring the network can handle current and future demands, this project reduces the potential for flooding and increases overall infrastructure reliability. It reflects our commitment to providing unrivalled customer service, ensuring infrastructure reliability, and upholding environmental stewardship.

Planned Work

We are investing approximately £1.1 million to enhance the resilience of the sewer network, significantly reducing the potential for flooding at the affected properties on Gresham Road. This investment underscores our commitment to providing an exceptional customer experience.

The construction work to address the flooding issues in the area, will include the following:

  • Construction of a high-level relief manhole at the upstream end of the combined sewer behind the affected properties near the junction of Bow Street and Gresham Road.
  • Installation of 165 meters of new 600mm diameter sewer along Bow Street and Gresham Road.
  • Construction of three new manholes.
  • Integration of the new sewer line into the existing manhole at the junction of Gresham Road and Falkland Street.

The planned work will take place on Gresham Road, spanning from the junction of Bow Street to Falkland Street. A small mobile welfare and administration office will be located on-site. Given that construction will occur on the paved road, there will be road closures to facilitate the proposed works.

We recognize this is a densely populated area with many residents. Therefore, we have planned a phased road closure approach to minimize the impact on road users, who will need to utilize diversionary routes to reach their destinations.

Additionally, the site compound will be located on Cecil Street, approximately one kilometre from the construction site on Gresham Road. As a result, there will be a marginal increase in construction traffic between Cecil Street and Gresham Road.
