The construction phase of this project is now complete.
There may still be updates, so the project will remain here. We are still monitoring the project and will reply to any comments. So if you have any questions please feel free to comment or contact us here.
To improve the resilience and enhance the performance of the sewer network in the Kielder catchment Northumbrian Water is investing in improving sewage disposal in the Yarrow Moor vicinity. This work will ensure we deliver sewerage services that meet the needs of current and future generations whilst improving the quality of our rivers and watercourses for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.
Typical working hours would be Monday to Friday, between 8.00am and 6.00pm. If required, work may also be carried out between 8.00am and 1.00pm on a Saturday. We will notify you when weekend working may be required.
We have no plans to disrupt your water supply while we work on this project. In the unlikely event that the team accidently disrupts the water supply, our clean water response team will be notified immediately and emergency repairs quickly undertaken.
With all construction work it is inevitable that there will be some disruption in the immediate vicinity of the work. There will also be an increase in traffic in the area, with vehicles transporting materials to and from the working area and site compounds.
When construction works are necessary on the main access roads every effort will be made to undertake these works within a lane closure with associated traffic management. Any junctions will be crossed by closing one half at a time thereby ensuring that access is maintained throughout. Footpaths will remain open and pedestrian access around the works will be maintained at all times.

The site will be operated by an experienced contractor working to tight health and safety standards. Working areas will be securely fenced off from public access at all times. We do ask that everyone respects the site fencing, signing, guarding and instructions of our team when required for your own safety.
The new drains and cesspit will be buried underground. The new cellular truckpave access will be seeded and once the grass is established it will have minimal visual impact. A small GRP kiosk will house level equipment and telemetry communications.
Construction works typically involve the use of large machinery, road cutting equipment, digging up ground, pouring concrete and working with granular materials which will result in some dust, vibration and noise. The site team will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience caused by this and will make sure that the work is carried out safely. Given the timing of the works and the location dust is not anticipated to be an issue.
The work will involve excavating spoil for re-use, disposal off site should be limited, construction traffic may cause dirt on the roads. The site team will employ a road cleaning specialist with mechanical road sweepers which will be used daily to maintain the roads affected.
The work proposed is remote to the cottages, driveways and parking will not be restricted and footpaths will always remain open.
