We are investing £2.5 million to separate Marden Quarry and other sources of surface water from the public sewer network. This will improve the performance of our sewer network and help reduce the risk of flooding. This project is the second and final phase of work being carried out in North Cullercoats.
WE ARE WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NORTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FLOODING IN THE NORTH CULLERCOATS AREA.
This two stage project started in May 2015. The first stage involved investing £2.5 million to upgrade the sewer network and we expect to complete this stage of work by the end of March 2016. Our experienced partner, ESH-MWH, has been carrying out this work on our behalf.
The second and final stage of this project will involve investing £2.5 million to prevent surface water (rainfall) from Marden Quarry entering the upgraded sewer network. The surface water from Marden Quarry will be diverted into the North Sea. Work on the second stage of this project started on 29 February 2016 and we expect to complete this by 25 November 2016.
