We are working with our supply partner Mott Macdonald Bentley to carry out £500,000 of investment work. This work will involve replacing the sewer within the woodland and extending the culverted watercourse providing stability to the banks of pelaw wood beck.
THE RETAINING WALL SUPPORTS THE BANK SIDE AND THE TREES BEHIND IT. IF IT WERE TO BE REMOVED OR COLLAPSE, IT IS LIKELY THAT A NUMBER OF MATURE TREES WOULD BE LOST. OUR PROPOSALS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED WITH THIS IN MIND AND WILL LEAVE THE WALL IN PLACE AND SUPPORT IT.
Our proposal is to culvert the watercourse alongside the existing retaining wall and divert our sewer away from the failed section of wall. This new section of culvert will support the retaining wall and enable us to leave it in place. The culvert and new section of sewer will be backfilled using imported soil. This work will also help prevent ground loss from around the supports to Silver Link Bridge.
