GENERAL PROJECT

Sherburn Upgrade

Starting in 2022, as part of a £12.9 million scheme, we will be carrying out essential work to improve the performance and flexibility of our wastewater network and wastewater treatment works in the Pittington and Sherburn areas of County Durham. The scheme will help to improve the water quality of the Coalford and Sherburn Becks, as well as the watercourses downstream. Project updates

Update by Gabrielle Ward

Good afternoon,

Just a quick update for the residents of Latimer Way and Parkinsons Crescent.

We are aware that new properties have become occupied since our previous letters were sent out with information on our work. Letters have been delivered to your area today which you can view here.

From Friday 16th September, we will be accessing the field adjacent to Latimer Way to start preparation for the installation of the new pipe. An excavator and dozer will be delivered to the field tomorrow, along with a stone delivery on Tuesday 20th September. We anticipate actively working in this area for approximately 12 weeks, should any delays occur causing changes to our timescale, we will let you know.

Reinstatements to the field will be carried out at the end of the project.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.

We'd like to thank you in advance for your patience during this time.

Good afternoon,

Since our last update, the site team have been starting to strip back the topsoil along the pipeline route, ready for the new pipe to be laid. This includes stoning up the 'laydown areas' and the secondary compound. In the field towards the Pittington STW, we have added some stock proof fencing around the working area.

In the treatment works, the base of the Motor Control Center Kiosk has been laid, along with the duct chambers ready for the installation of the cables.

In other news, our Works Manager, John, brought in a giant onion he has grown in his garden. I've included a photo below.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below and a member of our project team will get back to you.

Thanks.

Good afternoon,

Just a quick update on our work in Sherburn and Pittington.

Pittington

Our site compound set up is almost complete. The planings to the access road has been laid, and the vegetation clearance is all done at the entrance to the compound. The cabins have been transported from our previous site in Wingate and are now up and running ready for our work to commence. We have placed the red and white water filled barriers around the site area, along with signage and walk ways. A new duct has been laid ready to divert the Sewage Treatment Works existing BT cable to the Motor Control Centre (MCC).

Work on site begins from Monday 22nd August where we will remove sections of the top soil from the area in which the pipeline will run.

Sherburn

From Wednesday 3rd August the site team have temporarily set up site at Sherburn STW to do some enabling works ahead of the main contract commencing. We aim to start on site in early October. Please be aware, this is subject to change, and we will let you know when we have a confirmed start date. MMB and our subcontractors have been surveying and tracking the existing services across site. We have also removed some vegetation on site following a visit from the ecologist to check for nesting birds. Looking forward, we need to put a section of ducting into place which is part of the permanent works and will allow the temporary HSAF treatment units to be re-located. A stone platform will be put into place for the HSAF units. Following that we plan to strip the soil on the main compound area and undertake all of the prep works ready to install the cabins in October.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below and a member of our project team will get back to you.

Good morning,

I hope you're all enjoying this lovely weather we're having.

Just following on from our recent letter that has been sent out in the post, I wanted to post a quick update of what to expect over the upcoming weeks.

From Monday 18th July, we will be starting to widen the access road into Pittington Sewage Treatment Works. This will include two way traffic lights along Coalford Lane adjacent to the STW for approximatley one week. If you take your car to the allotments, we would like to assure you that access will be maintained however, if you require any assistance our site team will be more than happy to help.

You will also start to notice our site compound being set up at the STW from week commencing 25th July. During the delivery of our site cabins, the wagons will access the site via Pittington village. Disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum however, please take extra care when you're walking/driving through the village at this time.

I have included the letter here for you to view.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below and a member of our project team will get back to you.

Thanks.

Update by Dean Thompson

We wrote to residents in your area in November 2020 and again in March 2021, about our essential work to improve the performance and flexibility of our wastewater network and wastewater treatment works in the Pittington and Sherburn areas of County Durham.

Starting this year, as part of the £11 million scheme, we will start work to help improve the water quality of the Coalford and Sherburn Becks, as well as the watercourses downstream. These works include construction of a pumping station at our site at Pittington, installing a 3.5km pipe between Pittington and Sherburn, and upgrading our wastewater treatment works at Sherburn.

We are yet to confirm an exact date when the works will commence, however we anticipiate it to be Summer 2022, and once we have a more precise date we will contact you once again to ensure you’re kept informed and made aware of any possible disruption.

The scheme will last around 18 months, however please be assured that there will be limited, if any, work completed close to customers’ properties during this time, but if you are going to be affected we will let you know. Over the coming months we will be carrying out further investigative work and you may see Northumbrian Water, and our contractors, Mott Macdonald Bentley (MMB), out and about in your area. We may have to dig some holes and use temporary traffic lights at certain locations during this time.

To understand your views about this essential work and how we can minimise any disruption you and your community may experience, wee would like to invite you to attend one of two customer information drop-in sessions we will be holding on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 27th April at Sherburn Community Centre (Front St, Durham DH6 1HD) between 15:15 and 17:45
  • Thursday 5th May at Pittington Village Hall (Crossroads, High Pittington DH6 1AN) between 15:15 and 18:45

Your water and sewerage services will not be affected and employees from Northumbrian Water and MMB will not require access into your home at any time during the work.

If you have any queries or comments or would like to speak to someone from the project team please get in touch using the ‘Contact us’ button at the top of the page. We’d really like to hear from you.

Regards

Good afternoon all, we want to make you aware that our investigation work will be starting week commencing 12th April for up to 4 weeks.

MMB will be carrying out Topographic surveys of the land whilst Dunelm will be carrying out the ground investigation work along the proposed pipe route from Pittington to Sherburn.

A topo survey sometimes called a land survey, uses highly specialised survey equipment to measure the position and height of both the artificial and natural topographic features on the site. Examples of natural topographic features Slopes, natural banks, and depressions in the land. Whereas Ground investigations are a means of determining the condition of the ground before beginning construction works. They focus specifically on intrusive geotechnical work such as trial pits and boreholes.

Whilst these surveys are being carried out NWG, MMB or Dunelm will not require access into your homes.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to comment below or use the contact us option at the top of this page.

Thanks

Sarah
