Storm Overflows Environmental Improvements

To improve the resilience and enhance the performance of the sewer network in Northumbrian Water is investing in the overflows in West Rainton, Ludworth, Bishop Auckland and Skelton. This work will ensure we deliver sewerage services that meet the needs of current and future generations whilst improving the quality of our rivers and watercourses for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.

Please see below most recent updates for the Storm Overflow Environmental Improvement Works.

Stanghow Road

Balmoral Rd

We are currently excavating a trench for a 225mm Twin wall Sewer on Balmoral Road. The rolling road closure is in place with access for customers at all times.

We have reinstated all works on the first stretch of pipeline and reopened the bottom section of Balmoral Road.

Stanghow Road Attenuation Tank

2-way lights will be installed on 03/03/25 for 7 days on Stanghow Road whilst we work in the carriageway outside the Attenuation Tank. We are working on the connection from the Attenuation Tank to the existing sewer network and installing a new Hydro break manhole chamber.

The Meadows

The is currently no work taking place on site but we are maintaining the working are on a daily basis for our return.

Finchale View, West Rainton

We are in the process of finishing up on site, with compound removal taking place this week. The topsoil spread will be carried out once the weather starts to dry out in April/May time.

Pithouse Lane, Leamside 

We are in the process of finishing up on site, with compound removal taking place in the next 3 weeks. The topsoil spread will be carried out once the weather starts to dry out in April/May time.
