Storm Overflows Environmental Improvements

To improve the resilience and enhance the performance of the sewer network in Northumbrian Water is investing in the overflows in West Rainton, Ludworth, Bishop Auckland and Skelton. This work will ensure we deliver sewerage services that meet the needs of current and future generations whilst improving the quality of our rivers and watercourses for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.

Good Afternoon, please see below updates on our ongoing Environmental Improvement Projects:

Stanghow Road, Lingdale

We have now completed the new drainage installation works on Balmoral Road and the road closure has now been lifted. From Monday 17th March, a new road closure has been implimented on Sandringham Road whilst we complete the next section of Pipework. 

We will be carrying out survey works on the roundabout between Balmoral Road and High Street, week commencing 24th March for approximately 4 weeks. We will have crew members on site who will ensure the area is safe for roadusers to manouver.

We continue to work on the Attenuation Tank on Staghow Road and the works on the Meadow are still on hold until all pipework has been installed. The area remains safe for the general public until further works commence.

Pithouse Lane, Leamside 

All major civils work is now complete. Although a small site presence remains, the compound area will be demobilised and reinstatement work will be carried out once we have some drier weather.

Finchale View, West Rainton

All major civils works are complete and the compound has been demobilised  We will return to reistate the working area once we have some drier weather.

Moor Crescent/Barnard Avenue, Ludworth

Esh Stantec will complete all final reinstatements on Moor Crescent and Barnard Avenue starting Monday 24 March 2025 and expect this to be completed within 1 week, weather permitting.

The site compound located on Moor Crescent will begin demobilisation from Monday 31 March 2025 and we expect this to be completed within 2 weeks.

Etherley Lane, Bishop Auckland

From Saturday 22 March 2025, the team will be working weekends for a period of 6 weeks. Working hours are between 8.00am and 16.30pm.
