GENERAL PROJECT

West Hallington Reservoir Improvements

In order to maintain the safe operation of West Hallington reservoir there are works required to ensure the continued resilience of the asset in order to be compliant with the requirements of the Reservoir Act. In order to do this, it is necessary to carry out works to improve the drawdown capacity of the reservoir which will require construction activity from May 2022 until the end of July 2023. This will result in restrictions to access around the reservoir crest and an increase in construction traffic during this period.

Project updates

Update by Glyn Jenkins

Hi

Following a review of the potential impact of the drawdown on water supply it has been decided to delay the start of the construction work until Spring 2023.  Although the project is delayed we are working hard to ensure that the proposed solution to upgrade the reservoir will be delivered in a timely manner.

In the meantime seprate work will be carried out this Autumn to carry out maintenance activity on a seperate part of the reservoir.

Thanks

Glyn

Update by Glyn Jenkins

Hi

Due for unforseen circumstances the start of work on site has had to be delayed until the beginning of July. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause but we are working hard to avoid any further delays in order to get the work completed as soon as possible.

Thanks

Update by Joan Tatters

Good Afternoon,

Just following on from Glyn's post I thought I'd take the opportunity to introduce the team who will be conducting the work at the reservoir in the coming weeks.

We are Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) and are proud to acknowledge we are currently one of Northumbrian Water's frame work partners, our team have a wealth of experience in the construction and design field and we all have worked on behalf of Northumbrian Water for a number of years.

Meet the Team:

Glyn Jenkins      -      Northumbrian Water Project Manager

Lee Buchanan    -     MMB Contract Manager wo will be overseeing the team and the project

Mark McAlinden  -     Site Manager who will be looking after the day to day operations

Scott Eastlake     -     Site Engineer who will work along side Mark

Joan Tatters         -    Customer Liaison Office (Me) who will be engaging with you all and keeping you up to speed on the project progress

Dave Mortemore  -    Northumbrian Water Customer Care Manager

It's likely you will see us quite often so have a look at our photos then you can put names to faces.

Our work will commence Monday 30 May when the team will be for approximately 4-5weeks setting up the entrance to the works, stoning up the area and stripping the field. We will be including new passing points along the main access road to the reservoir so as to make access for all that little more fluid. Traffic management will be introduced for health and safety reasons during this time too. There will admittedly be some inconvenience during this time however we will do our best to keep it to a minimum.

Please feel free to ask us any questions about the project we would be only too happyto help either in person or ask away on the portal.

Update by Glyn Jenkins

Hi my name is Glyn Jenkins. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as I am the Project Manager for Northumbrian Water working on the West Hallington Reservoir Act Compliance project.

The West Hallington reservoir was originally constructed between 1884 and 1890, when it began supplying water to customers in the Tyneside area. In order to maintain this key asset Northumbrian Water are responsible for the maintenance of the structural integrity of the earthwork dams. Therefore a project is due to commence on site to provide additional resilience to the structural integrity of the dam in order to continue safely managing the asset. The work will require the installation of additional outlet pipes in order to manage the water level to ensure the continuing integrity of the reservoir.

The work itself will be carried out by our supply chain partner Mott MacDonald Bentley who will be responsible for the day to day construction activity. The works will be closely supervised by Northumbrian Water and our consultants who will ensure that the work is carried out safely and have minimal impact on members of the public. Works on site are planned to commence at the beginning of June 2022 and will continue until late summer 2023.

If you require any further information or have any concerns during the site activity please feel free to contact me through 0345 733 5566

Thanks
