The construction phase of this project is now complete.

There may still be updates, so the project will remain here. We are still monitoring the project and will reply to any comments. So if you have any questions please feel free to comment or contact us here.

GENERAL PROJECT

West Hallington Reservoir Improvements

In order to maintain the safe operation of West Hallington reservoir there are works required to ensure the continued resilience of the asset in order to be compliant with the requirements of the Reservoir Act. In order to do this, it is necessary to carry out works to improve the drawdown capacity of the reservoir which will require construction activity from May 2022 until the end of July 2023. This will result in restrictions to access around the reservoir crest and an increase in construction traffic during this period.

Project updates

Update by Julie Oakley

Good morning,

I am pleased to provide the final update -  the civils work on the project is now complete. we have arranged for NWG to carry an inspection which is booked in for 12th April. Until this time the fencing will be staying up so the reservoir will still remain closed off and hopefully we get some warm dry weather in the coming weeks and we will be able to carry out the landscaping.

On behalf of NWG and JN Bentley I would like to thank you all for your patients while the work has been carried out and I hope you all have a lovely Easter break.

A quick update  - As the project is coming to an end and the commissioning of the siphon on Monday the 22nd and Thursday 25th January was very successful and without any major disruptions or incidents which is great news. You will be pleased to know that the site is due to be de-commissioned over the coming weeks so you may see a little more activity than normal but hopefully with no disruptions to Colwell Village and surrounding areas, as long as everything runs smoothly and goes to plan we should of vacated site no later than the end of March.

If you have any questions please leave a post below and we will get in touch.

Good morning,

I'd just like to start this update by introducing myself! My name is Julie Oakley, I am the new Customer Liaison Officer for MMB taking over from Joan and will be conducting the engagement with our customers and posting regular updates going forward!

Since our last update and after all the wet and cold weather we have made great progress on the reservoir and nearing the end of our project, up to now we have completed the stone works/gabion baskets, installed the crest chamber cover, backfilled around the discharge chamber, kiosk has been installed, the portadam removed, all pipework is in and has been pressure tested.

I have been out and about around the village of Collwell hand delivering letters, I have also placed a leaflet in the notice board located at the local bus stop to advise of the commissioning of the siphon in early to mid-January and the potential impact it will have, if you have any concerns or queries please do not hesitate in contacting us or leave a comment below.

From all of us at Northumbrian Water & MMB we wish you a very

Good Morning

Well what's going on with this weather, it's so mixed...... however, it hasn't detered the team from moving on with the project here is where we are todate:-

  • The regular H&S visit's have been going really well, to date no issues.
  • The intake base is just waiting for a dry spell so as to apply the sealant.
  • Daily morning inspections are taking place on the Portadam
  • Grouting on the pipework supports are on going on the crest embankment
  • The build-up of clay and stone pitching on the embankment continues, weather dependant!
  • The discharge chamber needs the steel work to be finished

So as you can read there has been a lot going on.

Here is a quick snap shot of the works.

Thanks again for your understanding

Hello

Hope you are enjoying this lovely weather we are having.

Here is an update of where we are this month, sorry about the technical issue regarding my previous post, it would seem the size of it was just too much for the system to handle. Hope you enjoy the photos instead and feel free to drop me a line should you want clarification on anything.....

  • The crest chamber is all cleared and tidy and the walls have started to be painted.
  • The crest embankment  has had a test panel of stone pitching created ready for checking, the steel shutters and pipe support has been conducted. A concrete pour for the thrust block and the pipe support. Some of the much has also been taken place to make room for the new chamber.

Here are some photos for you to check out.
