The construction phase of this project is now complete.

There may still be updates, so the project will remain here. We are still monitoring the project and will reply to any comments. So if you have any questions please feel free to comment or contact us here.

GENERAL PROJECT

Castle Eden Dene Sewer

The project will reduce the risk of flooding and pollution in Castle Eden Dene by providing additional capacity in the sewer network in the Sunny Blunts area of Peterlee.

Project updates

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good afternoon, we sent a letter mid-March updating you about our proposed project in Castle Eden Dene. You can click here to view a copy.

This work will involve the construction of new sewers and an underground tank to balance flows in the sewer network during periods of heavy rainfall.

Click here to view our proposed plan showing

  • The new sewers would run along the edge of Blunts Dene between the cricket field and the existing footpath.
  • Temporary access from the road leading to The Pavilion at the bottom of Helford Road and a material storage area in the grassed area between Thames Road and Blunts Dene.
  • The underground tank would be located in land between Sunny Blunts and Durham Way.
  • A temporary route for construction traffic along an existing footpath from Durham Way to Sunny Blunts.
  • The footpath diversion to maintain pedestrian access.

This essential work will ensure that the sewer network continues to serve the community effectively and reduces the risk of flooding and pollution in Castle Eden Dene.

We would love to get your feedback and views on our project. The Project Manager Dave Groark, Dave Mortemore from Northumbrian water and Myself Sarah Parvin from J N Bentley will be in your area on Wednesday 20 April. If you would like to arrange a visit or would like more information on the work please comment below or click "Contact" at the top of the page.

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good afternoon All,

Our investigations work was completed earlier in the week but, we want to make you aware of other work Esh are carrying out on behalf of Northumbrian Water.

They plan to start lining work on Monday 15th March and anticipate the works to be completed within 10 working days so should be clear of site by the 26th March.

Here's a little bit of info on what you can expect over the course of the 2 weeks.

A brief scope of the works - The works consist of installing track mats to create a temporary access track to the working area as shown by the blue arrows on the Plan. Once the access track is in place, over-pumping will be installed. The overland pipework will cross the existing footpath in two locations where ramps will be installed to maintain pedestrian access. Once the over pumping is in place the lining works will commence providing we have the right weather window. After the lining works are completed, the site will be cleared in reverse order to the installation.

Thanks

Sarah

Good afternoon All, some of you will have received a letter last week in relation to some survey work we are carrying out in the Sunny Blunts area. This work is starting today and expected to last up to ten working days.

The work is required to locate buried critical services and understand the ground conditions. Our contractors Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) and Castle Keep will do the surveys, and will not require access to your home.

If you have any questions, please comment below or use the ‘contact us’ option above to speak to one of the team.

Thank you
