Project updates

Update by Christine Taylor

Good evening,

I spoke to the site team on Friday who advised that they have been working hard in the summer sunshine.  I thought it would be a good idea to come to site this week.

I will be around Lartington Lane on Thursday morning if anyone would like to catch up with me or any of the project team.  Please just comment or inbox us to let us know.

Good afternoon,

We want to take this opportunity to update the local community with our progress.  See below the information that we have sent to local residents.

You will be aware that a project to safeguard water supplies in Teesdale is currently underway in the Deepdale area.

Northumbrian Water’s £900,000 renewal of a large water main in Barnard Castle was affected by safety concerns around weather conditions earlier in the year, while the team working on the project also discovered large parts of the century-old pipe to be surrounded by concrete.

The weather conditions and this unexpected discovery mean work around the Deepdale Aquaduct and Lartington Lane is now expected to continue until September, having originally been planned to complete in July.

The temporary closure of Northumbrian Water’s aquaduct, which had been put in place for public safety reasons, will remain in place for the duration of the work, which is being carried out by Northumbrian Water’s partner, ESH-MWH.

The company is replacing 160 metres of water pipe, and the project includes a temporary pipe being laid across the aquaduct to ensure supplies are maintained for customers throughout the work.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.  Do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information by commenting or the 'Contact us' option.

Update by Dave Eden

Afternoon everyone.

Progress on Deepdale Water Main Renewal is continuing well and with less issues now that we are largely above ground:

The overland bypass main is just about completed with only one more section needing to be placed on the west side of NWG's bridge before testing and chlorination can begin. After talking to a couple this morning I'd just like to assure you all that this section of the main that can be seen over the bridge and on the surface is a temporary installation to allow us to carry out the remainder of the works without disrupting your water supply. This section will be removed on completion of the works and the area returned to normal.

The connection of the new main under the road to the existing main is also nearing completion. This will allow us to test and chlorinate the majority of the new permanent main. To complete this we have to make some adjustments to the large excavation up the bank on Lartington Lane to reduce it in size and allow the remaning pipework to be fitted.

Once all of the above is completed including satisfactory testing we will be able to bring the new main and bypass into service which opens up the next section of the works.

Hello all, it's time for an update on Deepdale and I'll also take the opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Dave Eden and I'll be the Site Agent for the remainder of the contract.

First off please note that we have switched part of the traffic management around so that everyone is driving on what would normally be the west bound side of the road through the whole works. This is to allow us to continue laying the new pipework to a connection with the existing main. We don't expect to change the TM again until we are reinstating the road surface.

The eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted that the new overland pipe is across the footbridge now which is a good section ticked off. We now need to extend the pipe from the bridge to the connection points east and west so that we can test and chlorinate the pipe.

Thanks for your time and continued patience and please have a look at the attached photos.

Afternoon,

Following a few weeks of having to overcome unforeseen problems, hopefully we are back on track and moving forward with the project. The dry weather for the last week has also helped. So lets hope it continues over the coming weeks. We will be working on both sides of the river over the next week, but this shouldn't cause any one any problems for access to the east side of the river for walking there dogs.

Again, thanks to everyone for they patience.

John.

Afternoon,

I hope everyone is enjoying the good weather and is looking forward to the weekend.

The weather is helping our cause and we are moving forward, we have new plant coming to site on Monday to help move forward the Project.

As before can I please ask everyone to please take care when traveling through the traffic management on Lartington Lane, as the good weather will bring more traffic out on to the roads.

I again thank everyone for the patience and understanding while we carry out the works.

Thanks, john.

Afternoon,

Having returned to work we have re-positioned the Traffic Management, back to it's orgininal position.

We are having a few issues due to some unexpected problems uncovered as we try to progress the works. We are trying very hard to overcome these issues and move forward.

Please as always take care when travelling through the traffic management & have a good weekend.

Thanks, john.

Morning everyone,

As the long holiday weekend approaches, we are still working hard to progress the project. As we will not be returning to work until Tuesday next week, we are in the process of altering the traffic management (making it shorter in length) and reducing the waiting times for the weekend. However we will have to change the traffic management back to more or less it's original position when we return to work next Tuesday.

Again we appreciate your patience during this time and hope you all have a nice relaxing couple of days off.

Thanks, john.

Good afternoon,

What a lovely couple of days?

Am I safe to say Spring is here.  Possibly not looking at the forecast.

I have spoken to our site team following a project meeting this week.  As requested we have assessed our traffic management on Lartington Lane and spoken to the local council.  We understand that this work is a disruption in the area, however we need to protect both the public and our site team.  With this in mind, we are currently unable to move or change the traffic management in place.

As soon as this is possible we will reduce our area to minimise any impact.

We thank you all for your patience and understanding whilst we carry out this work.

Have a great weekend

Christine

Morning,

As you may already be aware we have problems with the Traffic Lights at Lartington Lane. At present we are controlling the traffic manually while we wait for the lights to be repaired. I would ask that everyone take extra care during this period and over the next couple of days as the weather is set to get colder with the high winds forecast & the possibility of snow over the weekend. So again please take care.

We have had a few issues due to the weather and we are moving forward. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Thanks, john.
