Project updates

Update by John Cartwright

Afternoon,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is John Cartwright and i'm the Site Manager looking after the works being carried out on Lartington Lane, Barnard Castle.

At the moment you will be aware that we have two-way traffice lights in place on Lartington Lane from the Stone bridge, around the corner and about halfway up the bank. Can I take this opportunity to ask all who use this road to take extra care during the coming months as the weather is set to change, getting colder and making driving conditions more challenging as winter sets in.

We will be working in both the verge area & the road itself installing the new pipe work over the next few months leading upto & after Christmas. we will endovour to keep any distruption to a minimum, but would ask for everyone to be patient, during the works.

Thanks, John.

Update by Richard Johnston

Good afternoon

I’m Richard Johnston, Northumbrian Water’s Project Manager for the work we are planning to carry out in your area.

We will be investing £900,000 to improve the water supplies in the Barnard Castle area.

The work is split into to two phases :

Phase 1 will involve preperation works in private land off Lartington Lane commencing on the 30th October, followed by the laying of a new water pipe in Lartington Lane (B6277) this work is due to commence on the 13th November, the work will take us up to the Christmas break where we will demobilise for two weeks, re-commencing works on the 08 January 2018 with works on Lartington Lane planned to be completed in early February.

Phase 2 will involve the temporary closure of Deepdale Aqua duct bridge, this is planned to commence on Monday 8 January this will allow a temporary pipe to be laid on the deck of the bridge, we will then join the pipe sections (carriageway and bridge) together. To allow water supplies to be maintained all connections will be carried out via under pressure, we then have a period of testing, disinfection and final connections. Once these are complete we can removed the temporary pipe from the bridge and re-open, overall the works are planned to be completed in June 2018.

Our site team will keep you updated on a regular basis via this portal regarding progress we make, can I take this opportunity to thank you in advance of the works taking place for your patience whilst we carry out these essential works, also be assured we will not need to isolate your water supply.

You can post here on our Community Portal with any issues you want to be addressed alternatively you can tweet us @nwater_care or call our Customer Contact Centre on 0345 717 1100. Whichever way is best, we’d really like to hear from you.
