GENERAL PROJECT

Harrowgate Hill Rising Main

Looking after the environment and reducing the risk of pollution are two of our top priorities. As part of this commitment, we plan to invest within the sewerage network to replace a failing pumping main from Mayfair Road Pumping Station to North Road, Darlington.

Project updates

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good afternoon, following on from yesterdays post we have some good news!

Our team have successfully located the gas main in North Road, with help from Northern Gas Networks.

The traffic management will no longer need to be in place over the whole Bank Holiday weekend. We anticipate the removal by Teatime tomorrow following the resurfacing of the tarmac in the morning, this is to allow the tarmac enough time to cool before vehicles pass over it.

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend!

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good afternoon,

Our team are returning to carry out additional investigation work to locate a gas main.

The work which has already started in the footpath on North Road will continue throughout the week and likely to go into the bank holiday weekend.

Whilst we work to identify the location, there will be traffic restrictions, and a road closure that will start at 9 am Friday and end no later than 7 am Tuesday.

I have included a copy of our Traffic Management plan, which shows North Road will be down to single lane closure with access to Mayfair Road closed. A diversion route will be in place via Laburnum Road.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to comment below or use the contact us option at the top of this page.

Thanks

Sarah

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good afternoon, you will notice we are clearing the site today as our investigation work comes to a close. As part of these investigations, we had to locate the main gas pipe along North Road up to the roundabout. Darlington Borough Council allowed us the weekend to investigate at the roundabout with traffic management whilst the roads were at their quietest however due to the depth we were unable to successfully locate the pipe.

After discussions with DBC they have agreed to give us a larger window of time to do this part of the investigation which is now scheduled to start on 6th April and removed no later than 11th April.

We will keep disruption to a minimum and would like to thank you for your patience during this time.

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good afternoon all,  our operatives are currently carrying out investigation works in your area.

We are carrying out the investigation work to develop a solution to improve the sewer network's performance.  This work will include trial pits along Lemon Grove, Mayfair Road and North Road. This will involve weekend working, on North Road at the roundabout. You will notice traffic management in place whilst we complete these investigations. The investigation work is due to finish on 26th March.

Please be aware that Northumbrian Water or MMB will not require access to your home during this time. There might be a requirement to ask for cars to be moved the following day allowing us to complete the investigation outside your property.

We will keep disruption to a minimum and would like to thank you for your patience during this time.

Update by Paul Davison

Good morning,

Apologies, the existing pumping main burst late on Sunday night which resulted in NWG having to tanker all flow from the sewage pumping station located opposite Lemon Grove. This emergency tankering operation has continued through Sunday and Monday night while we attempt to repair the burst main.

One of our other contractor’s ESH is currently carrying out emergency repair work on the damaged main near to the start of Mayfair Road. Repair work started early on Monday evening and we expect this to be complete today which will allow us to stop the ongoing tankering operation.

Again, please accept our sincere apology for any disruption caused by this emergency work. While this is coincidental to our main planned work that we expect to start in July, it certainly highlights the pressing need for the renewal of the rising main to prevent further disruptive bursts and protect the environment.

Regards
