To replace a failing pumping main from Lamesley Sewage Pumping Station to Birtley Sewage Treatment Works.
The replacement pumped sewer will follow a different route to the existing route to avoid running close to the River Team or any other watercourses/waterbodies. The route of the replacement pumped sewer is planned to run from Lamesley Sewage Pumping Station (near Horseworld, Lamesley), through the adjacent grazing field, along Greenford Lane past the Ravensworth Arms, through farmland west of Greenford Lane before crossing Moor Mill Lane and then into land at Birtley Reed Beds and Birtley Sewage Treatment Works.
Some hedgerow/vegetation removal works along the route is due to be carried out late February/early March 2022, and some newt mitigation/clearing works will be needed at/near Birtley Sewage Treatment Works around April/May. We plan to start pipelaying work June/July this year, and expect that the works will be complete in January 2023, but it’s likely full reinstatement may have to be done during Spring 2023. However, as with all large scale construction projects, unexpected delays can sometimes occur.
