Marden Quarry

We are investing £2.5 million to separate Marden Quarry and other sources of surface water from the public sewer network. This will improve the performance of our sewer network and help reduce the risk of flooding. This project is the second and final phase of work being carried out in North Cullercoats.

We have now completed our temporary site compound set up on the grassed area just off The Broadway apart from a few tweaks, This week we have been progressing with our proposed shaft works area and anticipate excavation works to commence on 4th April 16.

We would like to advise you that there will be a lot of heavy construction plant and materials which is to be delivered to site on the above date.

Works have now commenced on the new phase of the drainage installation following on from our Phase 1 works up past Coble House on North View.

Update by Steve Boyd (Project Manager)

Hi everyone,

Now that we are live on the community portal please see below an update as to progress of the new scheme:-

Marden Quarry & Briar Vale drainage separation

We have currently been setting up our new temporary site compound on the grassed area just off The Broadway, please be assured that although we have taken possession of the area, the existing landscaping including the daffodils will be fully reinstated upon completion of the scheme.

In unison to the compound set up we have also fenced off the proposed works area for the new segmental shaft which is to be installed, and to follow the shaft works there will be tunneling/trenchless technology operations to install new drainage across The Broadway onto Burnside Road and similarly from the new shaft on the green into Marden Quarry.

Will keep you updated next week.

Have a nice weekend

Steve.

Update by Christine Taylor

Hi everyone,

I would like to take this oppotunity to introduce myself and my colleagues, who will be working on the ‘Marden Quarry, Surface Water Seperation’ site, on behalf of Northumbrian Water.

My name is Christine Taylor, the Customer Service Manager working for ESH-MWH on behalf of Northumbrian Water.  Over the period of the works you may see me walking around the area with the project team.  Please feel free to come and introduce yourself and ask any questions you may have, alternatively you can post messages here on the portal.

Our project team is a small group of people (see below) who have very important responsibilities, one of which will be updating the portal regularly to ensure everyone is kept up to date with our progress and any traffic management updates.

The Project Team

The Project Team

Mark Nicholson, is the Contracts Manager for the scheme working for ESH/MWH on behalf of Northumbrian Water Ltd. He will oversee the works on site, separating the surface water from the foul, working closely with the Site Team to deliver the project.

Steve Boyd is our Project Manager for the project, he will be working on site throughout the duration of the work; overseeing the daily operations of the scheme delivery.  Working closely with Steve on site is our Site Agent, Paul Jones who will be assisting Steve with the daily operations around the site.

Finally Geoff Joyce, the Site Supervisor who is employed to check works are carried out to agreed specifications, working on behalf of Northumbrian Water and the joint venture partners ESH/MWH.

All of us, at some point, will be posting updates on the portal during the scheme.  If at anytime during the working day, you want to speak to someone regarding the works, Steve and Paul can usually be found in the Site Compound; located on the grassed area, opposite The Quarry Public House on The Broadway; please feel free to drop by at anytime.

Regards,

Christine
