Project updates

Update by Joan Tatters

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Just thought I'd update you (albeit mine isn't as fancy a Pauls last one) with the events of this week. It would seem the introduction of the two way traffic lights have been received really well and the traffic congestion is to a minimum; also we have started to receive feedback and comments from you via the portal this again is great news as we really want to hear from you. Oh, and it doesn't stop there, great feedback at the drop in centre on Tuesday afternoon. Thank you!!!! John and his team are progressing well with the schedule of work and has asked me to pass on their appreciation to the residents of Morpeth during this disruptive time, he does understand and are trying to speedily "get on with it".

Don't forget Paul and I would love to hear from you, we are at the Town Hall every Tuesday 2-4pm.

Good afternoon,

Following on from Joan's last update, the good news is we have successfully completed the first section of work on Dark Lane quicker than expected and therefore we are ready to move on to the next phase of traffic management sooner than planned.

As from Saturday 21 January we will be removing the set of traffic lights controlling Morrisons car cark and switching to 2 way lights on Dark Lane which should reduce congestions either side of our works. As a result, we will need to close access onto Dark Lane from Howard Terrace for up to 6 weeks and will be closing access onto Dacre Street from Dark Lane to ensure that the roundabout is kept as clear as possible. Advanced warning signs are already in place advising motorists of this planned change.

We appreciate the work we are carrying out on Dark Lane is causing some frustration for motorists and customers. We aim to complete this work as soon as possible and would like to thank people for their continued patience while the works are ongoing and apologies for this inconvenience this is causing.  We would very much welcome your feedback and you get it touch by commenting on this update, contacting us via the link above or dropping in to chat with us on a Tuesday afternoon at Morpeth Town Hall.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Just thought I'd give you our weekly update on the project. At the weekend we adjusted the sequence of the traffic management, it was to assist the access to Morrisons which proved to be really beneficial as the congestion was reduced substantially. The lights will continue to be monitored throughout the project and I am pleased to announce we are slightly ahead of programme.  With that in mind we are investigating the option to change the 3 way lights to 2 a little earlier than planned.

To keep you informed we will be placing new road signs in advance of the changes week commencing 23rd Jan, and I will confirm the date in due course, so please watch this space for more updates.

Don't forget you can call in to talk to us at our drop in centre at the Town Hall every Tuesday, 2-4pm, we would be only too pleased to answer any questions you may have, or send us a message via the portal.

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding during this time it is much appreciated.

Good afternoon,

Many thanks for your patience and cooperation. Monday was a difficult day setting up the traffic management on Dark Lane and we apologise to anyone stuck in lengthy queues trying to get out of Morrisons car park. We’ve since ironed out these issues and I’m pleased to see that things have settled down and outside of peak times, traffic is moving well and Morpeth is very much open for business as usual!

While the site set up can take some time to get started, we are now progressing well with pipe laying and hope to be clear of the roundabout with our excavation work by the weekend with 3-way lights  remaining in place as we progress towards the junction with Howard Tce. Just a reminder, we will be working Monday through to Saturday in a bid to minimise disruption and are organising a temporary floodlight tower to assist with working outside daylight hours to help with progress.

I would echo Joan’s post yesterday, we very much welcome your feedback either by logging on and commenting on our updates or , via the 'Contact us' tab above. Alternativelty, don’t forget we will be running a weekly drop in session at the Town Hall every Tuesday afternoon between 2-4pm if you would like to discuss your queries in person.

We'll get some progress photographs uploaded to the portal very soon so you can see what's at the bottom of our trench!

Good Afternoon,

Just thought I would touch base with you all as this week was the start of the 3 way traffic management by Morrisons. Both Paul Davison and I did a rekki of the area yesterday and whilst the traffic flow was continuous we did recognise there would clearly be some disruption predominantly at peak times. Therefore to try and minimise this, we have placed "spotters" at either end of the lights whose job it is to contact the traffic management team who manually adjust the lights, we hope this helps.

The signs throughout the town are clearly visible and we would kindly ask drivers to be just that little more vigilant to pedestrians until they become a little more familiar with the changes in the area.

Thank you for your patience during these essential works and should you have any feedback or questions you would like us to answer please get in touch via the portal. Or don't forget we have our "Drop In" centre in the Town Hall every Tuesday afternoon between 2-4pm if you would like to discuss your queries in person. We welcome your feedback.

There will be weekly posts on the progress, so please watch this space for further updates!

Good morning

I hope that you have had a very enjoyable Christmas and New Year.

You may have noticed that we have started to establish our temporary compound both in the both the Bluebell woods layby and up at St George's Hostpial .

From 9:30am on Monday 9 January we will be commencing with our drinage works starting with three way traffic management on Dark Lane at Morrisons roundabout. During this time access from Dacre Street will not be permitted.

While this essential work is being carried out, we will need to suspend the pedestrian crossing on Dark Lane to ensure this does not interfer with the traffic management. An alternative safe crossing place will be signposted diverting pedestrians to cross the road using the refuge islands off Morrisons roundabout.

In addition, the outbound bus stop (heading towards Whorral Bank) on Dark Lane between the Stanley Tce and Morrisons roundabouts will also be temporarily suspended. We will review this situation as we proress away from the roundabout towards St George's Hospital junction and will look to bring this back into service as soon as possible. A notice will be displayed on the bus stop diverting customers towards the central bus station.

We offer our apologies in advance as we do anticipate some disruption during this project, however, we will make every effort to minimise any inconvenience caused.

Thank you for your patience.
