North Morpeth

We are investing £2 million to improve and extend the sewer network in Morpeth and to support ongoing and proposed developments to the north and west of the town centre.

Planned work

We will be installing over 2.6 kilometres of foul (household waste) sewer pipe along the new Northern Bypass cycle path, across Cottingwood Common, within St George’s hospital grounds and along Dark Lane (A197).

This last section of work on Dark Lane work will involve installing 230 meters of new sewer pipe in the highway between the junction for St George’s hospital and the roundabout for Morrison’s supermarket and Dacre Street. As a result, traffic management will be necessary. If you are going to be directly affected by this work, our site team will contact you with more information in advance.

We are working closely with Northumberland County Council to make sure any disruption is kept to a minimum. To make sure that we do everything we can to keep the traffic moving on Dark Lane, we are planning to temporarily close junctions exiting onto Dark Lane at Dacre Street, Howard Road and Thorp Avenue to reduce the number of temporary traffic lights needed.

Our main temporary site base will be located within the St George’s Hospital area, however, a small compound will be sited within the layby next to Blue Bell Woods for the duration of our work on Dark Lane.
