Good morning everyone! Just a friendly reminder that our investigation work will commence on Monday, July 3rd. During this period, there will be a road closure at the junction of Sandy Lane and Galloping Green Road. The closure is estimated to last approximately 2 weeks as we move towards the Mount Community Centre and then continue down to the public footpath. Overall, this phase is expected to span 4 weeks.

The purpose of this investigation work is to locate underground services in preparation for a future trunk main connection. Subsequently, we will be installing pipes towards the new reservoir at Mount Lane, which is scheduled for towards the end of 2023.

To ensure a safe working environment, a temporary road closure for through traffic will be implemented. However, we will be maintaining access to local residents access via a temporary diversion route along the rear of Sandy Lane. Rest assured, the car park adjacent to the Wagon Inn Public House will remain accessible throughout this period.

In order to maintain a smooth flow of traffic along the diversion route, we kindly request that residents park their cars on only one side of the diversion route.

We truly appreciate your patience as we conduct these necessary investigations and prepare for the main construction work later this year. The work we undertake now will significantly enhance efficiency during the main works, ultimately reducing the overall time required.

Just following on from Sarah's posts I thought in her absence I would give you a short but quick up date:-

The team are expecting to complete the soil bund this week so fingers crossed the weather doesn't change too dramatically. All being well this will reduce some of the site noise and the bund will be seeded in due course.

We have been very conscious of the weather, the heat and wind playing their parts so to surpress dust Gavin's team have been utilising a mobile water bowser round site spraying the most needed areas, I do hope this has helped.

Great news, everyone!

We're thrilled to announce that the site safety poster entries from Springwell Village Primary School have been chosen. We received some amazing designs, and it was a tough decision, but we've selected a winner from each year group.

These young artists have shown great creativity and understanding of the importance of safety in and around the site. We're grateful for their contribution in raising awareness among the community.

We'll be displaying the winning posters on-site to remind everyone about the potential dangers and how to stay safe. 

Once again, a big congratulations to the winners and a huge thank you to all the students who participated. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Afternoon everyone,

We wanted to give you a quick update. We're making great progress and wanted to share this with you.

First off, on the reservoir side of the project the site clearance is going well. Our team has been working hard to clear the area, and things are looking good. The temporary perimeter fencing has been installed.

Starting Monday, the team will be continuing with the topsoil strip. You may have noticed the stockpile of topsoil and this in preparation of it being transferred.

The tracking mats on Mount Park Road were installed which are necessary to protect buried services whilst we transfer the topsoil from the West to the East side of Mount Park Road. This activity is due to start Monday 12th June and last up to 6 weeks. Once this is complete the ramps will be removed.

Whilst they’re in place, we ask that you please adhere to the 5pmh speed limit.

You will also notice the acoustic barriers being added to the fencing next week. This is a requirement that we must meet, as per the planning conditions. The purpose of the barriers is to minimise the noise and dust that may arise during the ongoing work. We understand that these factors can cause inconvenience, which is why we are taking additional measures such as damping down when necessary.

During the topsoil strip with the archaeological watching brief, the team have made some exciting discoveries. As they have carefully stripped back the topsoil and excavated, they have uncovered several findings things such as, medieval pottery that could date back approximately 7000 years and, a collection of bones, which they believe to be more recent. Don't worry though, these aren't human, and are likely to be a large animal. I'm looking to forward to seeing what else we discover, whilst we carry on with the topsoil strip and excavation work.

Over on the Eighton Banks side, we've been busy too. We've put up the Heras and newt fencing there. Vegetation clearance is underway and, we're working on stripping the topsoil towards the west of Bowes Railway.

Hi there! We wanted to give you an update on the upcoming work that will be starting from the May 22nd. To ensure the safety of everyone, we will be installing temporary fencing using wooden fence posts and herras fencing panels around the perimeter of the reservoir site. There will be a short-term access point until the intended temporary access points are installed.

We'll also be using temporary tracking matts to Mount Park Road starting from May 30th to protect the new road and kerbs, whilst we construct the dust and noise suppression mound at Broom Court. The matts will remain in place for around 5-6 weeks while we transfer the topsoil from the West of Mount Park Road to the East side. The installation will be carried out on the 30^th May, our team will be equipped with stop and go signs to ensure smooth traffic flow. Additionally, we'll have 5 MPH speed limit and ramp signs to keep everyone safe whilst the matts are in place.

During the topsoil strip for the bund, we'll have an archaeological watching brief to ensure the preservation of land at the reservoir site and the section of land owned by Hellens adjacent to the Esh homes development, heading towards the Bowes Railway.

Over at Eighton Banks we'll begin with vegetation clearance along the public footpath after Mount Community Centre. We'll also remove some of the picket fence outside Mount Community Centre to prevent damage while accessing the working areas. The topsoil stripping for the stone haul road will begin in the field between Mount and Bowes Railway during the second week, and it's estimated to take 2-3 weeks.

Finally, trial holes on the Carr Hill section at the junction with Sandy Lane and Galloping Green Road are due to start from the week of July 7th. We'll keep you informed of any further updates as soon as we have them. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

We have been into the local primary school and engaged with the children to design some of our site safety posters, I just wanted to share a few of these with you. We will be selecting several the entries to be displayed on site, to alert people of the dangers of being onsite.

Hi Everyone,

As you’ll know, we are getting closer to obtaining the clearances we need from a planning permission point of view to be able to start works to prepare the site for construction of the reservoir.  We’re still expecting to be able to start this in the coming weeks.

To prepare for this, we have been making some deliveries to the site.  In recent days, there have unfortunately been some thefts our site on Mount Lane and as such we’re placing a security guard into the cabin over this weekend until a more long term solution is put in place from next week.  The cabin uses a small diesel generator to provide electricity and will need to run all weekend.  There should be no significant increase in noise but it may be detectable when in close proximity.

An alternative solution will be put in place next week and we apologise for any inconvenience in the meantime.

Dear Customer,

We wanted to provide you with an update on our investment project to create a new underground service reservoir in Springwell Village. This £53m project will directly supply over 50,000 customers in South Tyneside and improve the resilience of water supplies across Wearside and South Tyneside.

We are delighted to announce that we have appointed civil-engineering firm Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) as our supply partners for this project. They will help us construct the reservoir, which will hold 43 million litres of water and be the size of four football pitches.

Construction for the project is scheduled to begin in Spring 2023 and complete in 2025. The first phase involves creating the reservoir, as well as the inlet and outlet pipes and connections to our existing water supply network. The second phase includes the construction of a five and half kilometre pipeline, which will link the reservoir to existing water mains serving customers East of Usworth in Washington.

We will be working closely with our partners Mott MacDonald Bentley to ensure that the project is delivered to a high standard whilst minimising any disruption to the local area.

Community engagement is a priority for us, and we encourage customers living nearby to attend one of our two customer information events.
