GENERAL PROJECT

Blyth - Bates Avenue (Tallie Drive, Blyth)

We are planning work on the sewer network to reduce the risk of flooding and improve the performance of the sewers in Blyth.

Project updates

Update by Graeme Ridley

Good afternoon,

Project update with regards the ongoing construction of Northumbrian Water's new 'screenings facility' building, which is adjacent to our existing sewage pumping station.

The work that remains is all contained within the area behind the temporary fencing, directly west of Sheehan Court.

Due to delays in construction of the 'new screenings' facility building, the completion date is now forecast for September 2024.  This has been due to severe weather conditions and more time required for the construction of the foundations to the building.

In response to the severe weather conditions on 9th April 2024, our flooding teams have been in direct contact with Customers effected and are working closely with them to provide support.

Graeme Ridley.

Update by Gabrielle Ward

Good afternoon,

Since returning from Christmas break, construction work on site is continuing to progress well.

Manhole Chamber 02 is now installed which takes the inflow from the sewer in the road (Crawford Street) into the new infrastructure being constructed behind Sheehan Court. The dig down for installing the screen channel within the building is almost at total depth now. The screen channel will accommodate the new escalator screen which screens the inflow (removing any rags and other unwanted solids) coming in from the new Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) which is yet to be constructed.

Going forward into the month of February, we will be continuing works on the screen channel, installing Manhole Chamber 04 alongside associated pipework and then moving onto the CSO dig down.

I have included some photos for you to view.

As always, thank you for your continued patience.

Good afternoon,

It's time for our final update of the year and I'd like to start by thanking you on behalf of the project team for your continued patience. We understand the road closure has been a disruption and the weather has unfortunatley caused us some delays however, I'm pleased to let you know that the road will be re-opened by Wednesday 20th December.

Reinstatements have now commenced along Crawford Street following the pipeline installation.

Letters were delivered to nearby residents yesterday with updates on our current programme and completion date. You can view the letter here

The site will be closing down for the Christmas break from Wednesday 20th December until Tuesday 2nd January.

On behalf of the project team, we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

All access will be maintained via Canch Crescent however, should you require any assistance our site team will be happy to help. Please find a plan attached of the planned closure and diversion route.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below and a member of the project team will get back to you.

Good Morning,

Since our previous updates, there has been some changes to the team, so I'd like to take this opportunity to re-introduce myself and the Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) team looking after the project.

My name is Gaby Ward, I am the Customer Liaison Officer for MMB and will be conducting the engagement with our customers and posting regular updates on here. Our Contracts Manager, Colin Butler, will be overseeing the project. Then we have Dave Cross, our Site Agent who will manage the day to day operations on site along with our Site Engineer, Marc Bell.

You will have noticed our site cabins are set up in our new site compound. The team have carried out service investigations and commenced with the muck shift from the working area. The fencing has been erected to establish the working area boundaries.
Please be aware that we will have wagons coming to and from site to take the muck away starting from Monday 11th September. Although disrutption will be kept to a minimum, please take extra care if you are accessing Crawford Street adjacent to our site entrance.

I will be posting more updates in the upcoming weeks, so keep a look out.

On behalf of the project team, we'd like to thank you for your continued patience during this time.

Gaby

Good Morning

Its been a while since the last update, however, we have been working closely with Northumberland County Council to review the planning conditions associated with the planning application. These conditions have now been assessed and approved to allow construction works on site to commence.

As a reminder, these works comprise of new sewers along Crawford Street and construction of a new building which will house mechanical equipment to help deal with flows in heavy rainfall.

Our Partners, MMB, will be carrying out the work on our behalf and are due to re start on site on 17 July 2023, with completion estimated for 31 May 2024.

Traffic management will be necessary for a period of the works whilst the new sewer along the main road is installed. The traffic management will be in place from 28 August 2023 to 17 November 2023 and MMB will discuss this will local customers in due course.

Thanks

Happy New Year All,

The trial holes went as planned and the Traffic Management has been removed this week. We are expecting a road sweeper today to tidy the area.

The compound area stoning is completed and ready for when we mobilise once all the planning conditions are met.

We still have a little bit of vegetation clearance to do and that will be getting done next week.

We will be in touch once we are ready to enter the construction phase.

In the meantime, if you have any questions please comment below and one of the team will be in touch.

Thanks
