Good Afternoon All,

Just back from holiday and I am amazed the progress Gary and the team have made.

The contact tank installation has gone really well and we have worked really well with the contractor and all went to plan, next week we will install the wall units with the mobile crane and we will be pouring concrete and will tie in the base slab reinforcement.

Preparation work for the treatment building will continue predominantly the drainage pipe work and excavate the cable pit.

Next week from Wednesday (19th) we will introduce two way traffic lights on the B6525 a little further north to remove the road signs and we will change the road markings. (only for a couple of days)

I will be up there on Monday so if you see me please feel free to ask me personally if you see me (social distancing of course) about the project or send me a message.

Just a short but sweet update......

• The potable water main installation went ahead last week so the the traffic lights were removed as promised on Friday.
• The team are currently installing pipe work.
• Next week there will be some piling work starting for approximately one week.

I'm off on holiday for two weeks later this week so I will catch up with you all on my return however, any news/progress my colleague Sarah will keep you in the loop.

Following on from Joan's recent post...............

I thought to update you about the new Water Treatment Works we are constructing in the grassland opposite Berwick Road Industrial Estate.

As part of our ongoing investment programme and to ensure the highest level of customer service, we are investing over £10 million on the new facility to help safeguard water supplies in the area into the future. The facility will comprise of a a whole new building, fitted out with cutting-edge technology to allow for more engergy efficient processes to treat and clean water.

You may have notice that we have recently commenced with our construction at the site, working in partnership withh our trusted framework partners Mott Macdonald Bentley. The construction work at the site will take up to 12 months and we are aiming to complete the work by Summer 2021.

We are following government guildelines, to keep our teams, customers and communities safe during our work. If you want to as us a question or simply say hello, please kepp to a safe two metere distance

Although your water supply will not be affected by the works, you may see an increase in vehicular activity to and from site.

We will be providing regular update on the progress of the work via the community portal.

I'm guessing by now you will have noticed us (haha), yes we have been setting up and doing some enabling works in preparation of the major work.

Whilst things don't look too exciting at the moment within the next few weeks things will start to change so keep an eye out for developments.

The site cabins have been installed where Gary and his team are now resident, they have started to move onto the ground works, I have posted a few photos for you to have a look.

Just a gentle reminder, this week we will introduce 2way traffic lights from Wednesday so can we install a potable water main so please be that little more vigilant if you are using the B6525 during that time.

I just thought I would take the opportunity to introduce the Mott MacDonald Bentley Team who will be working on the project. Our team have a wealth of experience and understanding working with Northumbrian Water and have certainly experience working on treatment works.

We have:

Andrew Shield        -     Contract Manager who will be overseeing the team and the project.

Gary Theakston     -      Site Manager who has been just recently working on the Sewerage Treatment Works round the corner. Gary will be looking after the day to day operations

Stephen Rudkin     -      Site Foreman, will be ensuring the works on the ground

Joan Tatters           -      (Me) Customer Liaison Officer who will be engaging with residents and customers and will be keeping you up to speed with the works progress.

Our work will start on 26th May when the guys will be for the following six weeks temporarily setting up the access and works.You may see us around the village in due course so I have copied in our photos so you can put a name to the face.

Oh, and please feel free to ask us any questions about the project we would be only too happy to help either in person (by social distance) or ask away on the portal.

Following on from my previous post, I thought to let you know of some work we will be carrying out in preparation for building a new Water Treatment Works in the grassland opposite Berwick Road Industrial Estate in Wooler. We continue to follow UK Government guidance regarding COVID-19 and as it stands currently, our supply partner Mott MacDonald Bentley will be undertaking ground preparation work on our behalf on 26 May 2020 for a period of approximately six weeks. Although your water supply will not be affected by these works, you may see an increase in vehicular activity to and from the site. The initial work will allow for a new temporary access road to be created and ground preparation work will be carried out prior to the construction of the new treatment works. As mentioned, the timings of this work cannot be guaranteed however, we will continue to monitor Government guidance. We are committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of our employees and our customers. The site teams will adhere to the social distancing guidance and we ask that during this difficult time that you also maintain a social distance from our staff once the work gets underway.

A brief update to let you know that we have some site investigation works ongoing on site during February. There will be a team on site throughout February stripping topsoil and inspecting the ground. This is preparatory investigation work, in advance of the main construction. The main construction is currently planned to commence later in the spring once we have all necessary approvals in place.

Once we have the necessary planning and other approvals in place, we will provide further updates to confirm our construction programme. We will continue to provide project updates on this portal.

A brief update to let you know that our planning application was submitted earlier in the summer and is currently being reviewed by Northumberland County Council. The planning application is  due to be determined by November 2019.   Once we have the necessary planning and other approvals in place we will finalise our designs and confirm our construction programme for 2020.

We held a customer drop in session at the Cheviot Centre in Wooler yesterday evening.  The purpose of the session was to provide further information about the proposed works and to seek customer’s views on our proposals to construct a new Water Treatment Works in Wooler. 

We had some feedback that the invitation letters that we posted out to customers were received very late on.  We apologise for the late notice. For those of you who want to know more, but were unable to make it last night, please see below a brief summary of what was discussed on the evening.

Why are the works are needed 
Currently drinking water for Wooler and the surrounding areas is pumped from the ground and treat at our existing sites at Fowberry, east of Wooler.   The existing assets at these sites need to be improved to ensure that we continue to provide a reliable supply of clean, clear and great-tasting tap water for our customers.

What is being proposed
We are proposing to construct a brand new purpose built Water Treatment Works to replace many of the existing assets.   We have identified a new site opposite Berwick Road Industrial Estate in Wooler.  The new site has good accessibility and communication links.   The adjacent Mart and Industrial Estate also provide an appropriate setting for the new buildings. 

The new Water Treatment Works will use modern technology to ensure that we continue to provide a reliable supply of clean, clear and great-tasting tap water for our customers.

The main treatment plant and equipment will be housed in a steel clad building which is approximately 40 metres by 20 metres in plan and up to 9 metres in height. Next to the new building we will also construct new tanks, kiosks and hardstanding areas.   Vehicles will access the site via a new access off Berwick Road.

Next steps and timescale for construction 
We are currently finalising our proposals for a planning application, which will be submitted to Northumberland County Council for approval . You will be able to see this when it’s lodged early in the new year . 

Once we have the necessary approvals we currently plan that we will commence construction no sooner than  summer 2019 and the  construction period  will last for approximately 12 months.

If you want to find out more about the  work we are planning to improve our water supply and wastewater services in Wooler please pop along to see us in the town on the evening of 10^th December.

As part of our ongoing investment programme we are planning to construct a new Water Treatment Works at a site opposite Berwick Road Industrial Estate in Wooler.    We also have plans to improve the existing Wooler Sewage Treatment Works on the east bank of Wooler Water off Weetwood Road.    These two construction projects are currently planned to commence on site  in 2019.

We really want to hear your views about both our proposals and invite you to join our project teams on Monday 10 December 2018 at The Cheviot Centre, Wooler anytime between 5pm and 7.30pm.
