GENERAL PROJECT

Lynemouth Sewage Treatment Works Upgrade

We are investing over £3 million to improve storm and preliminary treatment at Lynemouth sewage treatment works to improve the quality of effluent discharging to Lyneburn and meet the demands of an increasing population in the wider catchment. Our sewage treatment works aid NWL in improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.

Project updates

Update by Paul Davison

Good morning,

You should have received a letter last week to let you know that we were planning to start site on Monday 25th July.

Due to unexpected long lead in times for critical electrical components which we will need for our new electrical control panel, we have revised the programme slightly to ensure we can deliver the upgrade works as efficiently as possible and in the process, reduce any disruption to customers. As a result we have taken the decision to delay the construction start until the Monday  15th August and subsequently, this will push the completion back to early June 2023.

Kind regards

Good morning,

Apologies, this is a little late, however, we have submitted our planning application for the planned upgrade works that includes a small extension to our operational site to accommodate the new screenings handling equipment. The planning consultation period runs until 6th June and you can view the planning documents through Northumberland County Council’s Planning Portal.

Kind regards

Update by Paul Davison

Good morning,

Apologies for the lack of updates on the portal.

We secured the necessary project budget back in December 2021 and are now progressing with the detailed design with a view to starting construction in late June / early July, however, we’ll keep you updated on progress and will be sending a further customer letter out to Lynemouth residents in advance of construction works starting.

In the last week or two, we’ve been carrying out some enabling works ahead of our main construction contract which has seen us demolish the old admin building, we’re also in the process of removing a short section of hedgerow around the perimeter of the site and scrub within the site in advance of the bird nesting season to protect both the birds and our construction programme. Don’t worry, we’ve created some additional habitat with the cut down trunks and branches and we’ll also be installing some artificial nesting boxes on the remaining building to encourage swallows and swifts back to site.

We are currently progressing with the necessary planning application for the modest extension of the works and I’ll be in touch again once the application has been submitted.

Regards
