We work hard to involve the community in all aspects of our projects seeking opportunities to involve schools when we can. While undertaking the Rainwise work close to Prudhoe Castle First School our partners Esh / MWH, led by Christine Taylor, took the opportunity to highlight the dangers of playing around construction sites. The team also volunteered to help restore access to an outside classroom area within the school playing field. I thought I would share the heads comments acknowledging the benefits that this additional work has provided. It’s rewarding to see the wider community appreciate the work that we carry out.

“Christine and her team at Esh were fantastic! They engaged with the whole school through an assembly and highlighted the work they were carrying out in the area. The children loved making posters for the fencing around the work site and it was great to hear the children actively discussing how they could keep each other, and their families, safe. The team followed up with some groundwork on our school site and their volunteers helped to resurface a very sad and dilapidated looking pathway. This has meant the children now have access to the 'wild area' in the school grounds.”

Hi

I hope you are all well and enjoying the better weather, let’s hope it lasts to the end of the Summer !

As you know we have been working in Maple Grove, Castle Road, Rowan Grove and Tyne View in Prudhoe as part of our Rainwise intuitive. This work has reduced the flood risk by increasing the capacity of the sewer system, the basins and swales constructed around Rowan Grove and Maple Grove will help to sustainably manage the surface water within the drainage catchment.

This portal has been updated regularly as the work progressed, I hope you found the information useful.

The good news is that we have completed this work.

Despite it being out of season we landscaped the open spaces where work has been undertaken. I would hope that the reinstated areas will fully establish over the coming months. We will continue to monitor these areas if remedial works are required they will be carried out in October

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your patience and support during the construction phase of this project, I appreciate that you may have experienced some disruption over the period of this essential sewer upgrade.

At Northumbrian Water we are continuing to work with communities to manage the amount of rainwater that enters the sewer network through our Rainwise surface water management programme. We would encourage residents to get involved, making changes at home no matter how small, such as installing a water butt, can help manage rainwater in a natural environment.

We will be commencing our work in Ovingham in October, if you wish to follow progress please visit the Ovingham pages on this portal.

Happy Wednesday,

We delivered some letters on Friday advising the works are now completed to the local residents.  Within the letter we enclosed a feedback form for customers to let us know how we performed.  Please complete and send it back as we appreciate all feedback from our customers.

I have also attached a link to the form for anyone who prefers the digital age.

Thanks

Hi Everyone

Last week we attended Prudhoe Castle First School and volunteered to help build an outside classroom area. The site team including Northumbrian Water's Project Manager Ian Davison and Loren Jennings and Esh-MWH contract manager Dave Player were more than happy to come along and do what we could to help the school out. It was a great day and the lads really worked hard to get the work done.

I've attached a few photos of the day, hope you like them :-)

Oops I nearly forgot!

I promised I would post a photo of a Swale at another location that is now completely reinstated with grass to show how they can look once completed.  Please find one below.

Good afternoon,

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the children at Prudhoe Castle First School.

This morning each and everyone of them visited our works near to the entrance to discuss the work and why it isn't the best place to play on their bikes and they were great.  Each and everyone was polite, well behaved and extremely talkative.  I hope they all had a lovely day and enjoyed their special Fathers Day Lunch.

Have a great weekend

Christine

Hi

The section at Maple Grove is almost finished, just the bollard to replace and the tarmac to do next week. We'll re-visit the basins next to Castle First School next week as we now have a revised working drawing to reduce the height of the upper basin. After observing for ourselves and listening to residents comments, we will be installing a fence and/or shrubs to prevent the basins being used as a bike track.

Our next section of works will also start early next week at Tyne View Terrace where we are installing non-return valves to prevent storm water backing up into the properties during flood conditions. We do have a road closure in place for this but we will work with the residents here to allow access as much as we can do safely.

Hi

Now that our Castle Road section is complete and the road opened, we have closed off the access road at Sycamore Grove. We will topsoil it once the ground has dried out after all the rain we've had. Maple Grove started this week, this work should only take another week or so to connect up.
