Project updates

Update by Mark Robinson

Afternoon everyone,

From one extreme to another! We have made great progress over the past couple of weeks whilst the sun has been out but not so much now the rain is upon us. A couple of hours rain can totally change a project, not only in terms of progress but also safety and quality. We have taken necessary measures today to ensure that nobody is put at risk, work areas are safe and quality of work isn't affected.

Onto progress....as I mentioned, a great couple of weeks. We have now complete our lining operations on both the Eastern and Western side of the A1. In hand, we can now decommission and remove the over pumping plant and equipment and finally, the stone haul roads. This activitiy commenced yesterday and is now well underway. Please be careful and extra vigilant when in the area of Featherstone Grove or Maynard Street, there is an increase in wagon and plant movement whilst we reinstate the public open space.

We have also started collapsing and backfilling the old, redundant pipe as well as tidying and preparing the vast work areas for topsoil replacement. In some areas, you wouldn't even know we'd been there!!

Unfortunately, our drainge installation has been delayed over the past couple of weeks when we uncovered an existing water pipe which wasn't where it was supposed to be. This is in the Lynemouth Way area. Finidng uncharted services or even those in the wrong location against the information we have on site can be challenging. The pipe passes straight through one of our manhole chamber locations and as a result, we must divert it over 80m around our work area. A simple fix but one which delays our project.

Hopefully the rain stops soon and with any luck, we go back to sunny, warm days.

Good News!

We've now complete Brunton Lane crossing and the traffic management has been removed. Our workforce installed the 600mm dia. pipe beneath 8 No. HV electric cables and the road crossing in 3 days! Great work by all involved. We are now continuing installation through the farm field beside out compound and making good progress.

Lining works have commenced and are well underway with great progress made in the last week. We have installed 4 No. pipe liners and works are currently ongoing to reinstate the manhole channels before the Ultracoat is complete. If the weather stays on side we should be complete the bulk of our works on the Eastern side of the A1 by the end of the week! Our large pumps controlling and diverting live flows will then be moved upstream and the second phase of lining will commence. Once all the liners have been installed we will then begin removing the stone haul road and replacing topsoil.

Our subcontractor, MJR Groundworks, have had a challenging time off Roseden Way over the past few months, replacing pipe work online whilst dealing with a series of issues which have occured as a result of live flows and the condition of the existing pipe and environment.  However, the team have complete the installation along with connections downstream and as of today, moved onto their next section of work. Again, great work by all involved. We will have to return to the area in a few weeks to remove some of the old pipe and fill a section beneath Roseden Way with grout, avoiding having to close the road and remove it.

You will notice a lot more activity in and around Lynemouth Way from today, with pipe installation commencing from MH1501 to WBF02. What we call 'the dog leg' is the last remaining section of 'Offline' pipework on the project and will almost complete the new pipe line with only two connections remaining. Works will be carried out in close proximity to the residential area and footpath running from West Brunton Farm to Great Park so please be vigilant of moving plant and vehicles. We will continue to carry out our works safely within the extents of our perimeter fence and a footpath diversion will be set in place in the next couple of weeks.

Hopefully next week's progress will be as good as the last!

Hello Everyone

Just a quick note to advise residents that we will be working late tonight. We're busy working around the A1 so the work is quite a way from any properties and there shouldn't be issues with noise or dirt for local residents. The team will finish by around 9-10pm tonight so may result in a small amount of traffic exiting the estate.

We hope that this doesn't cause any disruption

Thanks

Tony

Good morning,

Isn't it great to see the sun out?

Maybe summer is finally on its way...

I thought I would take the time to point out the 'Rate this project' feature on this portal on the right hand side of the screen.

It would be great if you could take the time to let us know how we are doing?

We will update the portal with our work later this week.

Enjoy the sunshine

Christine

H Everyone

I was out and about around West Brunton last week trying to notify residents of road works this week. Here's a copy of the letter I delivered.

In the letter I explained that there may be disruption to traffic on Brunton Lane from Thursday 11 May 2017; this has been delayed and will now be from Monday 15 May 2017 and will last a maximum of 4 days. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks

Tony

Afternoon everyone,

Good news! Roseden Way crossing is complete with a new 600mm dia. pipe installed beneath the carriageway. The traffic management has been removed following reinstatement of the tarmac. A little bit of work is required to put back the footpaths which we will be revisiting in the near future. The footpath diversion we set in place is no longer present so you can now walk your normal routes (be mindful the housing developers still have their own in place).

Apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience!

We are continuing 'Offline' drainage into our work area just off Roseden Way. Another manhole chamber has been installed and within the next couple of weeks, our drainage installation activities through this area will be complete. All that will remain is a little bit of tidying up and reinstating.

Next week will see the return of our subcontractor's, JetAire. They will remobilise to the areas either side of the A1 accessing from Maynard Street and Featherstone Grove. We will begin installing pipe liners and finish coating the existing chambers to prevent from further corrosion. I'll upload plenty photos in the next couple of weeks to show you how they are getting on.

We will also pick back up work to the Northern end of the project beside our main compound off Brunton Lane. A large section of 'Offline' drainage will be installed through the road, through our compound (we need to move house for the remainder of the project) and finally through the farm field to the starting point. A lot of ground to cover in the next couple of weeks.

Afternoon all,

With a few hours before we break up for the long easter weekend I thought I'd drop a little message to update you on where we are this week.

Roseden Way crossing has started and the first half is complete. We have moved onto the second half but unfortunately we have ran out of time so will have to be complete when we return. The traffic management will therefore remain in place until completion next week. Apologies for any inconveniene!

Elsewhere on the project, we have recommenced work around the pipe lining section, preparing for our subcontractor to return with their material brought across from Germany. Sections of the original chamber benching have had to be removed in order to fit the lining equipment in. To do this, we are using coring rigs which help to remove the concrete in large cylinder shaped sections, without the need to stand holding onto tools for long periods of time.

Works are progressing nicely and there will be a lot of activity in the coming weeks to push the project towards completion!!

When we leave tonight the site will be secured for the long easter weekend. Please remind children that a construction site is no place to play and remind them to keep away from our work areas, fencing and pipe work.

From all of the team at West Brunton Farm, Happy Easter!!!

Update by Mark Robinson

Afternoon all,

It's been a couple of weeks since I last added anything and there has been a lot of movement across the project.

We have continued our online drainage installation in and around the new development at Brunton Grange. Flows and issues with the existing pipe have continued to add to the challenges but we are getting there with some good progress made lately. We have a road crossing to complete through Roseden Way before we complete the LAST SECTION of online replacement in this area!!! On that note, please be aware of the traffic management we have had to set out in order to cross through the road. There are tarmac ramps either side of our crossing point to help divert the pedestrians but please keep any eye out for passing traffic. We will be through the road and have it opened up as quick as we can.

A new access was complete last week from Lynemouth Way right up to a new work area at the back of the new Taylor Wimpey development. We will use this over the new couple of months for our site vehicles and deliveries. A new chamber was installed here last week and a connection into the existing sewer is ongoing. A technical and fiddly section of work running nice and smoothly thanks to the lads working on it.

We are curretly waiting on materials being delivered to site from Germany in order to continue lining of the pipe through the public open space and beneath the A1. This is due to land on site week commencing 24th April where activity will pick back up in and around this area. We have replaced a section of footpath which had to be diverted in order to carry out the work whilst we wait on our deliveries and a diversion will be put back in place in the next couple of weeks.

Some constructive comments fed back lately and evidence of the 'you said, we did' approach implemented across the site. We now have new, shiny project scheme boards at various locations, stickers and signs posted along the length of our pipe line through the public space to tell everyone who it belongs to and as I mentioned above, reinstated the footpath to help with pedestrian traffic through the area.

I'll update you all with more information next week,

Mark

Hi everyone,

You will of received a letter over the past few days regarding our works at West Brunton.  As Mark has talked about in his blogs we have come across some challenges on site that the project team have worked extremely hard to resolve.

While digging, the site team discovered the sewerage system had deteriorated badly, resulting in numerous significant emergency repairs being carried out.  This work has resulted in the need for additional machinery and site support, and has slowed progress.  As a result we now expect to finish the whole project by 11 August 2017.

Thank you for your patience

Christine

Update by Mark Robinson

Afternoon all,

It's been a while since I provided you with a project update. We've had a few issues to resolve with the existing pipe including further collapses and more over pumping which has taken our focus away from the main works. However, after a lot of hard work from the site team we are back on track and pushing forward with the sewer upgrade.

A picture paints a thousand words so I'll keep my update brief and give you more photos to look at instead!

Basically, we have now started the online replacement of the existing pipe (putting a new pipe in where the old one once sat, whilst maintaining flows). This is hidden within the hedgeline running into the Great Park development from the public open space beside the A1.

If any of you walk the area beside the A1, you will have noticed a lot of activitiy and pipe work being installed above ground. This is the over pumping which will be in place for several weeks, allowing lining works (putting a pipe within a pipe) to take place from the Western side of the A1, to the Eastern side, finishing just beside Newcastle Golf Course. Please be careful when walking near the pipe and fenced off areas. It will be worthwhile reminding any children not to walk on top of the pipe either.

Enough said...now for some photos!

Mark
