You may remember that we wrote to you in January to give an update about the work we were planning to undertake in Whitton. We promised to keep you up to date regarding our proposals.

In my previous letter, I mentioned that the issue to be addressed was complex and the scale of the works required was significantly greater than first anticipated. As a result, the works were rescheduled within the capital plan and programmed to commence during the financial year 2019/2020.

The design team have now identified a solution to ensure that our sewer network continues to protect the environment and serve the community effectively. We want to share our new proposals with you to understand your views about this work and how we can minimise any disruption you and your community may experience once the work is underway.

Our proposed work will see 575 metres of new sewer pipe installed within the highway and verge. A new package treatment plant and outfall sewer to the river Coquet will also be provided. We are planning to commence these works in late Spring. A plan is posted on the "Planned Works" tab.

Hi All

On my previous portal update I mentioned that the design team had identified that the diversion of the combined sewer into the Rothbury network will marginally increase the downstream flood risk. Additional analysis has highlighted that the issue is complex and the scale of the works required to address the hydraulic detriment is significant.

As a result, the sewer diversion works have been rescheduled within the capital plan to allow the team sufficient time to identify a suitable solution. This work is now programmed to commence during the financial year 2019/2020.

Hello Everyone

I hope you all remain well, I wanted to touch base with you all with an update on the design work within the last month or so.

The design team are continuing to work on the sewer diversion between Whitton and Rothbury. The ground investigation is complete and the scrutiny of the network performance continues. We have identified that the diversion of the combined sewer into the Rothbury network will marginally increase the downstream flood risk. We have to ensure that any work undertaken in Whitton does not increase flood risk elsewhere therefore, the scope of this project has increased to ensure that there is no downstream detriment.

This analysis will take additional time to complete and we do not anticipate commencing the construction works until Spring of 2018.

I will continue to keep you up to date with our plans for this essential work and will be back in touch to confirm the construction dates when the  investigation is complete.

Just a quick note to advise that our contractor Dunelm will be onsite next week excavating trial holes in the field between Whitton and Rothbury. The work is planned to commence on the 12th October and should be completed within a couple of days.

This is a geotechnical investigation which will allow the engineering team to assess the ground conditions within which the sewer diversion is proposed. Upon completion the land will be reinstated back to the original condition.

You may have already noted surveying teams in the village and fields gathering topographical data. In the coming weeks you may see a gang onsite for a day or two undertaking hand / machine dug trial holes in the field between Whitton and Rothbury. This is a geotechnical investigation which will allow the engineering team to assess the soil conditions within which the sewer installation work may be undertaken. Care will be taken to ensure minimal disturbance and upon completion the land will be reinstated back to the original condition.
