Monks Wood, North Shields Surface Attenuation

We are currently on site adjacent to Beach Road. Our scheme is to separate surface water flows from the combined sewerage system and store the excessive flows during storms. To do this, we are constructing new surface water and combined sewers together with a series of cascading basins in which to hold back the flows until the storm subsides and the existing sewerage system can accept the storm water.

Project updates

Update by Anthony Birkett

Hi Everyone

You will definitely be noticing changed around the compound lately. The large cabins have now gone and been replaced by two smalled cabins located nearer Beach Road. We're now continuing with our work contructing the basins and will be working towards this area in the coming days and weeks.

With this in mind, we will need to cross the footpath from Whitecliffe Close. This means that the footpath will be closed for up to three weeks from Monday 23 September 2019. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and will open it up again as soon as we can.

I've attached a few photos showing the areas I've been talking about

Hi Everyone

I've been to site today to check in with Simon and the team about how we're getting on. We're making decent progress and will be making some changes around the compound next week.

We will be removing the large cabins from site and clearing the area that they currently occupy. We have explored numerous possibilities about where to locate our welfare cabins going forward and have decided that we will locate two smaller cabins on the other side of the tree line, on the verge next to Beach Road.

This is to enable the digging of the basins where the cabins currently area. The new, smaller cabins will be self contained with their own enclosed generator and will be situated next to the current entrance and exit to the compound.

I've attached a photo showing where they will be.

Unfortunately, the location of the cabin nearest to Morrisons and the fact that the fencing will need to be pushed back to dig the basins means that access round the back of the compound area will no longer be possible for residents of Heybrook Avenue (picture attached illustrating the access I am referring to)

Tony

Hi

All is going well this week. The drainage on the South side of Beach Road should all be finished next week with just reinstatements to complete the following week. There is still a couple of weeks left to finish the drainage on the North side next to Whitehouse Lane before starting reinstatements. Over the next couple of weeks we will be down sizing the compound ready to start the final basins.

Hi Everyone

I was on site this week checking in with Simon and the team. Its been quite busy on site, we're continuing to work on the drainage and basins further down Beach Road. We're also making plans for moving the compound around a bit and downsizing. We off-hired one of the cabins this week and we are currently discussing where to locate the cabins while we dig the last couple of basins - this will be in the next few weeks and we will keep you updated of when this will be.

It looks like the weather may be picking up over the weekend, so I hope you enjoy your bank holiday!

Hi

Another wet one today just as the site was starting to dry out!

We are continuing with the final bits of main drainage either side of Beach Road. Hopefully, depending on the weather this will all be done within the next few weeks.

The footpath which runs past White House Primary School to Beach Road will be opened today ready for the weekend.

Hello Everyone

Well, bad weather has stopped play today! We started, but ended up like drowned rats, so had to call it a day early for the weekend. Obviously we need to dry the lad's kit, so the generator will be left on until 7pm this evening to power up the heaters. It will also come on for an hour tomorrow and sunday. We hope it doesn't disrupt your weekend too much.

Its nice weather - for ducks!

Hi Everyone

From tomorrow we will close the public footpath for a short stretch on the west side of Beach Road, close to the entrance to Monks Wood. Diversions will be in place, so please follow them and avoid walking in the carriageway as this is a very busy road. The closure will be in place until the end of September 2019.

I've attached a photo showing the rough location.

Hi

The basins have progressed well and are taking shape nicely. I've added a couple of photos to show you a view of the excavator using the GPS system. All of the new ground levels will be finished at the correct designed levels from the 3D model.

Hi

The trenchless pipeline over Beach Road towards Monks Wood is now in and done. We'll continue with the drainage to get it all tied in now. The first of the basins started this week and will continue in to next week.

Hi

Our trenchless drainage crossing over Beach Road is currently going to plan. The way things are going, we hope to have the pipe over the road on Monday.

The open cut drainage is also going ahead as planned which will continue for the next few weeks.

We've installed the inlets and out lets for the first 3 basins. Next week we'll have GPS enabled excavators and dozers digging out the basins.
