Project updates

Update by Anthony Birkett

Hi Everyone

I was at Wapping Burn this morning, meeting with Alan, Darren and the team there as we near the end of the project.

As you will have noticed, we finished the crossing at Whitehouse Way at the junction of Doxford Drive so we have been able to open that junction!

Next week, we will need to work in the junction opposite when we cross that road, heading towards the lads working in the verge. This junction will be managed by 3 way traffic lights .

The week after we will start to permanently reinstate in Doxford Drive and Whitworth Road.

Hope you have a good weekend.

Tony

Hi everyone,

Whilst I was visiting various sites today, I managed to grab two of our site team who have working hard at Wapping.  They were visiting another site but I convinced them both to get in front of the camera to give us all a quick update.

I would like to thank them both as I know they are camera shy :)

Thanks team

Christine

Hi everyone,

Darren has been kind enough to provide an update for the works at this location.

The gang working in the south area, have continued progressing along the verge on Whitehouse Way. Good, steady progress is been made on the installation with a reinstatement gang following behind. As the weather hasn’t quite turned yet we will carrying out more grass seeding works next week as well. We currently only have 125m of pipework left to install.

The Northern gang have been persisting with the issues we had with the trenchless crossing. Fortunately the end is now in sight…! The surfacing subcontractor is booked for Tuesday so the junction for Doxford Drive should be re-opened the following morning. Once they have completed the works on Doxford Drive they will commence installing pipework heading towards the southern gang. This means from Tuesday next week we will need to install 3 way lights back on Whitehouse Way and the road leading to Icarus and Premier Aqua Tech.

To ensure we have no repeat issues with traffic build up, we will be operating the lights manually at peak times to ensure traffic build up is kept to a minimum.

Week commencing 6 November we will need to reinstate 3 way lights on the junction between Swan Road and Hunter Road in order for us to carry out some minor works to the main. This work should not take longer than 1 week.

To provide an overview of what is coming he has also said that the week commencing 13 November, we will be completing the final reinstatements of the junctions which currently have temporary surfacing over (Whitworth Road and Bracken Hill). This will be done under 3 way lights but should be completed within 1 day. The lights will be manned throughout as the traffic management subcontractor will be required on site to keep switching the work area for the surfacing subcontractor while they undertake the work.

Thank you Darren for the update.

I hope everyone has a great weekend

Christine

Update by Anthony Birkett

Hello everyone!

This week, The Southern Team have been concentrating on crossing a large gas main as we continue to make progress up the verge on Whitehouse Way. They will go back down onto the junction between Hunter Rd and Swan Rd to complete some addition work there. This will require 3 way traffic lights. I have attached a cople of pictures of the working area to the side of Whitehouse Way.

The Northern Team are still working on crossing Whitehouse Way at the Doxford Drive junction. We have encountered significant unexpected problems here and didn't expect it to take so long. We expect delivery of a specially made pipe on Tuesday and once that is installed and back filled we will finally be in a position to reopen the juction.  Once that junction is complete we will begin work to cross the junction opposite. This will be under traffic lights but the lights will be manned during busy periods to ensure waiting time is kept to a minimum.

We will also have a third Team next week. They will be concentrating on completing work at the southern end of Hunter Rd including reinstating the road there.

Hope you enjoy your weekend and half term for those with kids!

Tony

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you had a good weekend, I'd like to provide you with an update on our progress.

Our Southern Team continue to make good progress along the verge on Whitehouse Way. They have also carried out reinstatement of the topsoil infront of KNS and the Vape store, However, planing season is now behind us, so replanting the hedgerow we removed, and some trees along the verge will ia now planned for spring next year.

Our Northern Team have been carrying out some preparation work to complete the trenchless crossing. The specially fabricated pipework is being delivered today which will allow us complete the work on the Doxford Drive junction. Once this area is reinstated they will start installing pipework in the direction of the South Team and if we've done our sums right(which I'm sure we have!), we'll meet in the verge!

Our Third Team are also making good progress and have completed the topsoiling on the verge by Shotton Road. There is a small area to reinstate still at the bottom of Stratstone’s car park and this will be completed in the very near future.

Hope you enjoy your week

Tony

Hi Everyone

Darren has kindly provided a further update on work at Wapping Burn:

Our Northern Gang have been working with a subcontractor carrying out remedial work as we cross Whitehouse Way. We have another specialist subcontractor making a special piece of pipework which will be installed next week. All being well, work should be complete on the junction for Doxford Drive by the end of week commencing 23 Oct 2017.

Our Southern Gang are making good progress along the verge on Whitehouse Way and have been installing more than 20m of pipe a day. The junctions with Whitworth Road and Bracken Hill have been temporarily resurfaced for now until the pipework installation is complete. The surfacing subcontractor will then return to site and complete the reinstatement.

We have another gang working at the bottom of Hunter Road. Oncethe have completed testing, they will construct a chamber at the bottom of Hunter Road and resurface the road, completing our works in the area.

Regards

Tony

Hello Everyone

Darren has provided a further update on progress at Wapping Burn:

Due to unforeseen issues we have decided to re-do the trench less crossing of Whitehouse Way at Doxford Drive. The trench less subcontractor will return to site later in the week to complete this work. This will allow our team who are currently working there to complete work in the burn off Shotton Road.

The second gang are continuing to install the pipes along the verge on Whitehouse Way. Currently they are half way across the junction to Whitworth Road. They should be completely across and clear of the junction by the end of the week. They will then continue along the verge until they reach the Thrust pit in Icarus’ land and connect onto the trench less section.

We have a third gang working at the bottom of Hunter Road for much of last week starting to set up for a pressure test. Once they are complete down there they will head up to the open excavation in the verge on Whitehouse Way opposite the Swan Road junction, where they will install the test plates. We will then fill that section of the main up and complete a pressure test.

A fourth gang will be starting on Tuesday 26th. Their main task is to complete the topsoil reinstatement along Hunter Road, Swan Road and Whitehouse Way which will allow the subcontractor installing the grass seed to attend site.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your week

Tony

Hi Everyone

Last week was a good week for us!

The Northern Team successfully completed the necessary testing of the pipes to enable them to move on the next task. The next task will involve reinstating the verge and installing a chamber in the junction with Doxford Drive. Traffic Management continues as it has been for sometime at this location.

The Southern Team is moving along Whitehouse Way at a good pace. This morning, as planned, we start crossing Whitworth Road. Once the crossing is complete, they will then carry on up Whitehouse Way until they meet the Northern Team.

Hope you enjoy your week

Hi everyone

We are working to complete the job as quickly as we can alongside Whitehouse Way.

On the Northern side, we have been carrying out tests on the pipes which need to be completed before we move on. This will continue into this week. I was out last week talking to businesses nearby about this and once we complete this testing we will cross the road right beside our compound. This will result in traffic lights at the junction for a perios of about 1 week.

The Southern team are making good progress laying pipes in the verge alongside Whitehouse Way and will reach Whitworth Road very soon. I have been talking with businesses affected by this to ensure there is as little impact as possible.

These two teams should meet somewhere along the verge alongside Whitehouse Way.

We also have another team working on the project, they are starting to reinstated the top soil in the verges where we have already been. This means we should be able t reseed these areas before the winter comes.

Hope you enjoy your week

Tony
