Good afternoon everyone,

I thought it would be a good oportunity to give you all an update of our works.

Shotton Road area (near to the Fire Station):-

Works progressed well last week following the installation of the Northern Connection as per our previous update. We are currently progressing with the installation of the sewer towards and over the existing Burn. We are also completing the concrete support to the Northern connection this week.

Hunter Road:-

We have successfully made the new connection onto the existing sewer. Works are now progressing with the installation of the new pipe-line along Hunter Road.

Please keep checking the traffic management section of the Customer Portal for traffic updates.

If any issues arise please do not hesitate to contact us by commenting here, or dropping into our site cabin.

We do have some photos and videos which will be posted later, due to technical issues I am unable to post at this moment in time.

Thanks

Christine

Good morning,

Isn't it great to see the sun out?

Maybe summer is finally on its way...

I thought I would take the time to point out the 'Rate this project' feature on this portal on the right hand side of the screen.

It would be great if you could take the time to let us know how we are doing?

We will update the portal with our work later this week.

Enjoy the sunshine

Christine

Update by Ian Davison

Hi Everyone

Hope you are all looking forward to the weekend, I am pleased to report that the pipe installation work has commenced in earnest.

Our contractor was working hard overnight on the live main installing the northern connection point. The pumping station was shut down with its operation  maintained by tankers managing flows whilst the junction and valves were installed. I am pleased to report that this has been a successful operation.

Over the coming weeks we will have two pipe laying gangs working towards each other from the Northern and southern end of the job. At the Fire Station (northern end) the new pipe work will be bolted onto the new connection point, we will cross the Wapping Burn and continue the installation works along the verge of Shotton Road. At the southern end of the scheme a second gang will continue the installation works along Hunter Road working their way towards Swan Road. Access to businesses will be maintained throughout. The works on Hunter Road will initially be undertaken within a road closure and as works progress up Hunters Road we will change to a lane closure controlled by two way lights. We will continue to keep you updated as we progress

Enjoy the weekend

Ian

Update by Anthony Birkett

HI Everyone

I've spoken to Darren Whale the site manager this week and he has provided an update on the progress of this project and what we'll be up to in the next couple of weeks:

Next week at the southern end of the scheme we will begin installing pipe work along Hunter Road leading up to Swan Road. We are anticipating this taking 2 weeks. The first week we will mainly be working within the closure already in place. The second week will be installed under a lane closure with 2 way lights as we approach Swan Road. As we near the junction with Swan Road we will need to install 3 way lights to enable us to get round the corner and head towards Whitehouse Way.

Works at the northern end are well underway now with the existing main exposed. We have a shut down planned on the evening of Thursday 4th May (weather dependant) which will allow us to cut a section of the main out and install our new connection. From this connection we will then begin installing the main over Wapping Burn and through the verge along Shotton Road.

I've also included a few progress photos here.

Hope you have a lovely weekend

Tony

Hi Everyone

I hope you are all well

To date we have been establishing the site compounds and working areas, leading in materials and finalising the investigations by undertaking the remaining trial holes. We are currently exposing the northern and southern connection points which are located adjacent to the fire station & at the bottom of Hunter Road.

You may have noted that the project poster refers to work on the rising main, I thought it might be useful to explain exactly what a rising main is. Most sewerage systems rely on gravity to transfer effluent to a point of treatment. It is not always possible for gravity to do all of the work, where sewage needs to be moved uphill pumping stations are the only option. A rising main is a pressurised pipe-line that transfers sewage uphill away from the pumping station, discharging it into the next available gravity sewer on route to the treatment location.

The Wapping Burn Pumping station is the fenced off building next to A19 Pools and Spa’s. The Wapping Burn rising main is 2.5km long and transfers sewage to the north into the gravity system that subsequently discharges through Peterlee and into Horden Sewage Treatment Works.

,

Over the coming weeks the pipeline installation work will become more evident, we will continue to keep you updated with frequent portal posts

Thanks

Ian

Update by Alan Croft

Hi everyone,

Just a quick introduction and update. I am Alan Croft the Contracts Manager for the Scheme. I have been heavily involved throughout the design phase and I have past experience of the existing network in the area. I have been working with the Design Team and NWG to ensure the finalised layout reduces disruption to the local Business Owners and Road users on the Industrial Estate where possible. Our site Team led by Darren Whale will endeavour to ensure the site works will reduce the disruption on the Estate as much as possible.

The Site Compound off Whitehouse Way is almost complete. Site compound/laydown area's have been setup off Shotton Road near to the Fire Station and also on Hunter Road. We have taken delivery of a large amount of materials in preparation for the works. We have been concentrating on investigation and preparation works so far. Works moving forward for this week are split into 2 areas:-

Hunter Road:-

We will be starting to lay the new main from the Southern connection point. This will involve large plant excavation, installing trench support, excavating and installing the sections of new main.

Shotton Road:-

Excavation works are now commencing for the new connection. Our first main task in this area is to make a connection onto the existing main.

Please keep an eye on the Traffic Management section of the Customer Portal for updates. We have a customer engagement cabin within our compound if anyone would like to call in and see the plans or speak with the Site Management.

Regards,

Alan.

PS. Thanks to the Travel Chef off Whitehouse Way for the Sarnies for our site meeting on Friday!!! They were tremendous!!

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope everyone is excited about this weekend, it being the first bank holiday of the year?

Our site team will be off, but back at it on Tuesday.  Next week they have told me that work will continue near to A19 Pools and Spa.  Trial holes will be carried out on Hunter Road, deliveries of the pipes are expected too.

We will also be starting to dig on both ends of the scheme.

Any problems please feel free to comment or give me a ring

Hi Everyone,

Well the first week went well, and I got to meet a few more of the local businesses.

I was on site yesterday and took a couple of photos of our site compound whilst chatting to Darren and his team.  Darren has provided me with some information of what they will be doing next week.

Investigations will be starting near to Pools and Spa, by digging some trial holes and installing the air valve..  Also the team will be clearing the hedges on the grassed area outside the Vape Store and KnS.  Over the other side, near to Doxford Drive they will be starting the 'hard stand' on the grassed area to allow vehicles on the grassed area.

The work on the compound area will continue.

See you all soon, have a great weekend

Christine
