Project updates

Update by Anthony Birkett

Hi Everyone

I've spoken with Darren who has kindly provided a progress update on the work.

The North gang are currently working on Doxford Drive and have been working hard trying to solve some issues we have with testing the main. This should be resolved this week.

The South Gang are working on crossing Bracken Hill. They are past half way through that crossing now, so not too long before we can fully open the junction - we should have it open by Monday 4 September. Then they will carry on working up the verge alongside Whitehouse Way

I've included a couple of photos that Darren sent over

Good afternoon

I have just had an email from Darren providing an update for this project.

At the northern end of the project, the team have been working on testing the main this week. All being well this should be complete early part of next week which will allow them to continue laying the pipes along Whitehouse Way. We will be installing 3 way lights on the junction leading to Premier Tech Aqua week commencing the 28 August 2017.

Southern end of the project - following the discovery of the leaking water main this halted work until it was repaired. This is because the flow coming from the leak was such that it was flooding our trench. Work is now continuing and the team are installing the pipe work to the chamber. Following this they will be crossing the Bracken Hill Junction. Traffic management is scheduled to be installed on Monday morning (21/8/17), this will be 3 way lights. As before, the two traffic light heads on Whitehouse Way will be green together, then turning red to allow traffic to exit the Bracken Hill junction. The team expect these lights will be in place for 1 week.

Have a lovely weekend

HI Everyone

Work is moving on at Wapping Burn and I've been in touch with Darren the Site Manager for a progress update:

Northern Team:

We have now completed the pipe work installation through Doxford Drive and under Whitehouse Way. Work will soon start laying the pipes towards the Southern Team so we can join the pipes up. First of all, we need to test the pipes to ensure there are no leaks. The junction will remain closed while thie testing is complete.

Southern Team:

The Southern Team have also crossed Whitehouse Way and will soon start working towards the Northern Team. However, they have discovered a leaking water main while they've been digging. Northumbrian Water will repair this imminently, but this has added a few days to the schedule. We now expect to be crossing Bracken Hill from Monday 21 August 2017. I was out speaking to the businesses there this week advising of this work and this leak means that we will start there a couple of days later than expected.

Good news!

As you may notice ths morning, we have now completed the crossing of Whitehouse Way, so as from Friday 4 August 2017, we removed the traffic lights to allow easier travel to and from work on the business estate.

I'm sure you will be as pleased about this as we are. We will now work up the verge alongside Whitehouse Way and join up the two pipes.

Hope you have a nice week

Happy Friday everyone,

We had a busy time last week on site for numerous reasons.

Rather than just updating our customers about the construction work and traffic management, we would like to share some of the great work both Northumbrian Water and Esh-MWH carry out with the local community.

Last week in your area, Esh-MWH working in partnership with NWG, organised a special project at Wapping Burn, Peterlee for Pinnacle Training North East - who work with teenagers (aged 13-16) who have additional behavioural and/or academic needs. They aim to up-skill students, providing them with hands-on training which includes trades such as bricklaying and plastering.

The students visited the Wapping Burn Rising Main Replacement project, as well as the NWG Pumping Station. Afterwards, the Wapping Burn site-team delivered inspiring presentations to provide a realistic idea of what can be achieved through hard work and determination. Mark from Pinnacle Training explained that the students are reluctant to set their goals high, as they don’t want to set themselves up to fail. Hearing realistic life-stories from the Wapping Burn site-team showed them that you don’t have to be an A* student to become a success!

Although I was unable to make this event, I have recieved great feedback from all involved and thought it would be a great way to end the week sharing the footage of the event.

Have a great weekend and thank you to all those involved with this event.

Good morning,

I received a call this morning from Ian Davison, our Northumbrian Water Project Manger, with some good news which I thought I would share with you all.

Our site team have confirmed that they have now laid over 700m of pipework in the Wapping Burn project, this is our half way indicator.  In turn, this is great news that we are on programme to finish on program for the 10 November 2017.

I am sure you will all be happy to hear this.

As a project team we would like to thank you all for your continued patience.

Have a great day

Christine

HI Everyone

I have been to see the site team today and Darren provided a progress update.

As you may have seen, work has progressed down Swann Road to the point were we are crossing Whitehouse Way. We will complete the crossing in two halves, swapping the lane closure midway through and expect to be fully reinstated and have the road fully open by Friday 7 July 2017. The Southern Team who are working on this crossing will then start working up the verge towards the compound.

We expect the Northern Team to have completed their crossing of Whitehouse Way by the end of Friday 31 July 2017. They will then will then start working towards the Southern Team and meet and connect their pipes together on the way.

Hope you have a good weekend

Hi Everyone

I hope you are all well. As you know we are working down Swan Road towards Whitehouse Way, where we currently have traffic lights in place. You may notice an increase in activity in the carriageway tomorrow, as we will start replacing the pipe in the carriageway. Three way traffic lights will remain in place to allow the team to complete the work safely.

I hope you enjoy your week

Hi Everyone

As its fine weather, I've been to site today to check on progress. It seems we've been making best use of the fine weather and things are progressing well;

On the South side, we're working ever closer to Whitehouse Way from Swan Road and it won't be long until we reach the bottom of the road. When we do, we'll have cross the road so will let you know how that will affect you nearer the time.(image 1 shows this location)

On the North side, while work is going well, we have encountered one or two issues there that we are working to resolve(image 2).

You'll have noticed that we've started stripping back the area alongside Whitehouse Way(image 3) in preparation for digging there and we'll start that work once we finish on the other side of Whitehouse Way.

I've taken a few photos so I've attached them

Tony
