Project updates

Update by Christine Taylor

Hi all

As you may be aware, Northumbrian Water along with Esh-MWH are planning a project to improve our sewer network close to the Wapping Burn Water course. This will reduce the risk of pollution events from the rising main which runs in close proximity to it.

I thought this would be a great opportunity to introduce the Esh-MWH project team who will be working closely with Ian Davison.

My name is Christine Taylor, the Customer Service Manager working for Esh-MWH on behalf of Northumbrian Water. In December I visited some of our local businesses alongside Ian, and will be visiting again tomorrow. Over the period of the works you may see me walking around the area with the project team. Please feel free to come and introduce yourself and ask any questions you may have, alternatively you can post messages here on the portal.

Alan Croft, is the Contracts Manager for the scheme working for Esh-MWH on behalf of Northumbrian Water Ltd. He will oversee the progress of works on site, as we improve the sewer network. Alan will be helping to maintain high levels of safety, quality and customer engagement.

Darren Whale is our Site Agent for the project, he will be working on site throughout the duration of the work; overseeing the daily operations of the scheme delivery.

Tony Birkett will be the appointed Community Liaison Officer. Tony will be on site regularly, providing support to the site team and the local community. He will be happy to help with any queries you may have.

If you have any queries or questions please feel free to contact one of us

Update by Ian Davison

I hope you all remain well, I would like to update you on our progress since last being in touch in December.

The design work is almost complete and the project team are working towards commencing construction on or about 3rd April with an anticipated completion date of November 2017.

Our experienced partner, Esh/MWH will carry out this work on our behalf. We plan to install 1250m of new 500mm diameter pipe work along Hunter Way, Swan Road, Whitehouse Way and Doxford Drive reconnecting into the existing sewer to the west of the Fire Station.

To reduce disruption the new sewer is located, where possible, within the wide grass verges.  Work within Hunters Way and Swam Road is to be undertaken under lane closure with traffic lights to control vehicular movement, access to all businesses will be maintained. The work in Doxford Drive will be undertaken with a full road closure, signage will indicate the diversionary route. Access to the Northern section of Doxford Drive will be via Brindley Road.

I will continue to keep you up to date with our plans for this essential work. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions about the scheme.  You can leave your comments on this update or by ringing our customer centre on 0345 717 1100.

Thanks,

Ian

Update by Ian Davison

Hi I hope you are all well,

I wrote to you in October, seeking your views about the rising main replacement project we are proposing in the Bracken Hill Industrial Estate.

Design work continues in preparation for this project and Northumbrian Water continues to work closely with Durham County Council as the solution develops. Trial holes are required to establish the location and level of the existing services within the highway and verges. The plan, posted at the Planned Work tab, identifies the proposed trail hole locations. This work will commence on Monday 9th January and will involve the use of machinery to excavate shallow inspection trenches to expose and record buried utility cables and pipelines. All access routes will remain open, where works are proposed in the carriageway traffic management will be established, the highway will be fully reinstated upon completion.

The site team will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience caused by this and will make sure that the work is carried out safely. This work may last up to 3 weeks and will be undertaken by Esh construction.
