Rosehill Road, Willington Quay

Northumbrian Water is looking to improve the resilience and enhance the performance of the sewer network in the Willington catchment. We are proposing the construction of a new sewer overflow at the rear of Marina View, this work will be undertaken within the fenced off compound with site access taken from Rosehill Road. We will also be increasing the size of short sections of the existing sewer within Rosehill Road.

Project updates

Update by Anthony Birkett

Hi Everyone

I was on site yesterday to meet with Scott and the team. While I was there, the team were starting to lay the temporary tarmac in the road in Rosehill Road and Headlam View. As a result we expect the traffic lights currently on Headlam View to be removed by today. Permanent reinstatements will be completed at the end of the project.

We'll be starting work in the road further down Rosehill Road on Monday.

Tony

Hi Everyone

Work is going well at Rosehill Road, we're making good progress on the drainage at Headlam View and will soon begin working further down Rosehill Road. We expect to move the fencing past Marine View on Monday 6 October 2019, so residents here will need to turn left instead of right. Other residents will need to follow the same diversions that we currently have in place. This closure will then be in place until we finish.

The traffic lights on Headlam View will be removed by the end of this week.

Update by Anthony Birkett

Hi Everyone

This week we have started to work in the road on Headlam View. We're replacing the drainage between two manholes so have had to fence off one of the lanes. This means that we need to have two way traffic lights on the junction. We expect to complete this stretch within two weeks, but will endeavour to finish as quickly as we can to get the traffic lights removed ASAP.

We've also been constructing a manhole in Rosehill Road and will continue laying new drainage along the road this week and next. We will soon be moving the fencing further along Rosehill Road towards Marine View, and we will keep you informed about when this will happen in due course.

Hi Everyone

I've been on site a bit this week, you may have seen me out and about. I have spent some time with Scott and the site team and then notified those affected by our next change. Next week we will start on the drainage in the junction of Headlam View and Rosehill Road. The will result in two way traffic lights for up to two weeks. We had expected to start this stage of the works on Monday 16 September 2019, but this will now commence on Wednesday 18 September 2019.

I've attached a couple of photos showing the location of our work. We will be working between the two manholes visible in the road.

Please take care around the traffic lights.

Hi Everyone

I've been on site today, checking in with Scott and the team on how we're doing. We're making good progress and still on target to finish before Christmas. This week we've been continuing our work on the drainage in Rosehill Road. We've also started on the new CSO (combined sewer outlet) chamber on the verge by out compound. We'll be making a few minor Traffic Management changes in the next few weeks, but more on that later.

I've attached a couple of photos of the working area from this afternoon.

Hi Everyone

I was on site this week checking in with Scott and the team. Well, there's not a great deal to report - we are continuing to work on the drainage in Rosehill Road and all is going well. There's been no major issues, so we're still expecting to finish on site as planned. We'll be moving down Rosehill Road in due course, so will keep you informed.

It looks like the weather may improve for us this weekend, so enjoy the bank holiday!

Hi Everyone

I've been out and about on site and delivering letters today. Thankfully, the weather was kind while I was there! When we closed the road on Rosehill Road, we expected to reopen it by 23 August 2019, however this now will not happen.  Due to a change in design, the road will remain closed until 20 December 2019. Please find a copy of the letter I delivered here.

We apologise for the ongoing inconvenience caused by this closure and continue to thank you for your cooperation.

Hi Everyone

Its been a slow wee this week, the weather certainly hasn't helped! But we've persevered and made a little progress. Next week, we will continue on with the CSO and trial holes that I mentioned last week.

Have a nice weekend

Hi everyone

We're making steady progress in our work on Rosehill Road, the construction of the CSO is coming along nicely. Next week we will move a little further along Rosehill Road and dig trial holes in preparation for our work in that location - its within our current working area so won't change the road closure at this point. We will however need to divert pedestrians a little further along the road.

I've attached a couple of photos from this morning in the glorious sunshine - remember - always use sunscreen!

Take care

Tony

Hi Everyone,

After the drama of the flash storm last week, this week has been much more calm. We've continued working on the CSO and have made decent progress this week. Obviously, Rosehill Road remains closed and we will provide further updates about this as we go.

We will continue to work hard to complete the job as quickly as we can and remain thankful for your continued patience and cooperation.

As ever, if you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to get in touch and we'll be happy to help as much as we can.

Enjoy the weekend

Tony
