Update by Colin Short
Hello everyone, my name is Colin Short, and I'm Northumbrian Water's Project Manager for this project.
At Northumbrian Water, looking after the environment and reducing the risk of pollution are two of our top priorities. As part of this commitment, we plan to invest in the sewerage network in your area with the replacement of a sewage pumping main (known as a 'rising main') from Lamesley Sewage Pumping Station, near Horseworld, to Birtley Sewage Treatment Works (south of Greenford Lane/ Moor Mill Lane, Lamesley).
The replacement pumped sewer will follow a different route than the existing route to avoid running close to the River Team or any other watercourses - please see plan attached to this update.
We hope to start this work in the summer of 2022 and it's likely to last around six months. As our plans progress, we will be carrying out some ground investigations in your community and you may see Northumbrian Water staff and our supply partners, Esh-Stantec out and about over the next few weeks.
We do have to remove some hedgerows as part of our investigation and this is being carried out with full approval from Gateshead Council.
We'll be working closely with the community, and will be providing various updates, but we'd really like to hear from you if you have any queries or concerns over any part of this work.
Take care of everyone.
Colin
